Ignatian Discernment

Let me say that the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius are such a blessing! My Spiritual Director has been leading me through them for over a month now, and it's just brought a whole new aspect to my prayer. If you want more information, just let me know.

I spent a weekend at a carmelite monastery a couple years ago. And i went with the novices to visit a families house, where they had a rosary, and the father gave a talk. He discussed Ignatius Discernment.

What really stuck with me, (and confirmed my own discernment) was his explanation of Consolation, and Desolation. Consolation involves those times when we feel close to God. Desolation are the times when we feel deprived spiritually. When we are in a time of consolation, that is the time that we make desicions about religious life, or other vocation related issues. Even in small matters of spirituality. But when we are in Desolation, we need to remain faithful to our call. We don't make decisions during desolate times, because they will not be of God... etc.

...Hope that may be of help...
