Recommended Posts

A word signifying nine and referring to a public or private devotion that extende for nine consecutive days or weeks which ever is preferred, but usually days ,with the prayer being said on a particular day in each week for those nine weeks.

Tradition has it the practrice comes from the time spent in prayer by Mary and the apostoles awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit between Ascension Thursday and Pentecost Sunday.

When I was a young student we used to count back nine days before the beginning of exams and go to Mass each day and recite a prayer to St Anthony the patron of students.

we are just concluding a novena in preparation for Christmas starting on 16th December it is very popular amongst Filipinos.
