In reading of the early history of the Carmelites, the early rule was originally called the "Mystical Rule." That is very charictaristic of Carmel as the rule of Albert does not preach a specific spirituality. Each Carmelite finds his or her way according to the inner promptings of the Spirit. For me that is one reason why the religious name and title one picks is so very important as it indicates a specific way in which the individual goes to God. Think... Elizabeth of the Trinity... Her deepest devotion was the indwelling of the trinity and the name of Elizabeth meaning house of God. It was through these mysteries that she found her deepest spirituality and response to Her Three. This is how she immolated herself as a victim to God the Father. I just recommend pursuing your prayer life and see where that takes you. Then you'll get the groove of what you spirituality really is. Mary+Immaculate<3 Posted October 20, 2013 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Order of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary, but they're not exactly a spirituality of their own. I asked them is they follow a rule and they told me that they didn't, other than their constitutions, church teachings, and the Gospels. I also think Franciscan simplicity and poverty is beautiful, and I love the Dominican emphasis on preaching the Truth, and their emphasis on the EUcharist. Catherine Therese Posted October 20, 2013 Share Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) I am undeniably Dominican in the way I participate in relationship with the Lord. Having said that, I always get a thrill out of encountering different expressions of the universality of the Church. Two weeks ago I went on retreat at a Shrine to Our Lady of Mt. Schoenstatt and learned about their Patro-centric, Marian expression of the Faith. It struck me as very beautiful and whilst it and I are not that perfect fit, there are many aspects of it that really did resonate for me on a very deep level. Kayte Postle Posted October 20, 2013 Share Posted October 20, 2013 I thought I was Franciscan, but recently I've been growing to find I identify more with the Carmelite spirituality. :) Although I have heard that the two spiritualities are very close, and many discerners have a hard time deciding between the two.
