i was doing a quick picture search and came across more interesting things

article on the friars and brief rundown of the order
"Religious Vocations Supplement - Total consecration: Franciscans of the Immaculate serve Jesus and Mary"
http://www.archindy.org/criterion/local/20...-09/s-mary.html
"From throughout the United States and many countries around the world, men and women have answered God’s call by joining the Franciscans of the Immaculate missionary order, whose members greet people by praising the Blessed Mother.."

on the friars and the TLM/EF/Latin Mass
http://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2009/...-predilect.html
"The Franciscans of the Immaculate avail themselves, with joy and grateful appreciation, of the initiative taken by Pope Benedict XVI with the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum. [...] The choice to predilect the "extraordinary form" corresponds to a legitimate internal choice of the religious family, as foreseen in the same motu proprio, in a Catholic spirit of fidelity to the Pope and to the liturgical tradition of the Order founded by St. Francis of Assisi."

another article on the TLM - A Traditional rising in Cornwall
http://rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2009/03/t...n-cornwall.html
At Lanherne in mid-Cornwall a part of Pope Benedict’s quiet revolution is occurring. A youthful order is embracing the 1962 liturgical books in their entirety. Even in far-flung Cornwall new shoots are growing fast!
..The sisters have two branches. The Apostolic Sisters are involved with many and various apostolates in an ever increasing number of countries and the contemplative branch have four houses: two in Italy, one in the Philippines and the fourth at Lanherne. More foundations will follow.
Whereas the Carmelites were an elderly community, the exact reverse is the case at Lanherne.

"Eventually," Friar Augustine says, "we want to create a network of radio stations covering the entire United States. They would cooperate in sharing Catholic content in an attempt to re-evangelize this country. So the little station in Stockbridge is a link in the chain — one of the first links."

Lanherne is the name of a convent in St. Mawgan, somewhat near Newquay, in Cornwall. It was a Carmelite monastery for ages, but now the FI Sisters live there, and the nearby Friars say Mass (UA - they've asked for even their daily Conventual Masses in the UA) for them.

No problem! :D

I was surprised to see such a dark layout actually -- though, I quite like it! Also, it seems like there's more information on the sisters with updated contact information. Vedy nice.

You can choose different colour schemes in a widget on the right-hand column. Some of them are light-coloured.

They're totally hip. It's scary. I'm so used to 1997-style websites, and now the Nashville Dominicans and the FI's suddenly rage into 2009...

The piece by the webmaster (extreme lower right) starts with "Ave Maria".

I think I understand the idea behind that, but every time someone starts with that it's like they're addressing Mary (instead of the reader). I keep thinking "That's not me, that's me mum! Should I be reading this?"

Every time I read "Ave Maria" on their websites, I instantly hear Vittoria's "Ave Maria" in my head. "A-ve Ma-riii-eee-eeee-ah..." They even answer their phone calls with "Ave Maria!" I'm oh-so-tempted to do so myself....... but I shall resist!

Wow... this color-change widget thing is too cool... :nerd:

Yeah! The first time I heard it was when I was going with this sister whom I had met on the Metro back to their convent--which turned out to be a redone flat--so she knocked on the door and said "Ave Maria!" like it was a password and then the sister inside peered cautiously out and said "Ave Maria!" It was the cutest thing ever.

A lot later one sister explained to me that because they are all consecrated to Our Lady, in a certain respect she is with each of them, so that's why when they greet each other they greet her instead. And it works for other people too in an extended way. I don't know if that's the "official" or only explanation but it's pretty cool.

Ave Maria!
Johnnydigit: Five rosaries a day is nothing. When I was there with the sisters, we hit 8 and 9 a few times.

laetitia crucis: When are you going to visit? Definately take a chapel veil. There aren't alarm clocks in the rooms in MA. I advise taking a watch just so you know what time it is. Otherwise, just annoy Postulant Alicia by asking her the time all day. (My watch broke the third day into my stay). Also, they will wake you up in the morning/ after naps with an "Ave Maria!" (to which you respond, "Ave Maria!") so you don't really need an alarm clock. There is a bookstore in MA, which the sisters go to on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will probably go a few times, especially as the vocations directress is one of the sisters who does it. Sr. M. Consolatrice will give you a wealth of books by Fr. Stefano and probably also advise you to read, "Mary Was Her Life," about a Spanish Carmelite named Theresa. You will probably also learn to make rosaries while you're there. Since no one has mentioned it yet, they also don't use the backs of their chairs because, as Sister explained, it wouldn't seem right to meditate for an hour on their oh-so comfortable (sarcasm) kneelers and then relax in a chair. And take a mirror with you if you want to be able to use one. Instead of a mirror, there is a picture of Our Lady in the bathroom over a quote that reads "Nothing smacking of vain elegance or comfort seeking." Have fun praying with Alicia and Aspirant Tiffany after compline :) Recreating and song practice are really fun. Be prepared to play a lot and laugh until your sides ache! They're so amazing! I hope that you have a wonderful time and I will be praying for you. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Thomist-in-training: They definately greet everyone with an "Ave Maria," be it in person, on the phone, or in emails! That's the same explanation I got from Sister, so maybe it is the official one... She also added that it was because they try to see Our Lady in everyone. I've started "practicing" by answering my phone with it on occasion. :)

67 days till I enter them! Ave Maria!!!

They greet people with "Ave Maria"! That's great. Do the friars do it as well? I owe my soul to Our Lady so a marian order is great!

Yep. The friars do it too. What's really great is when you have a group of Sisters and Friars in the same room greeting each other. "Ave Maria, Father." "Ave Maria, Sister." "Ave Maria, Brother." They're great.

And speaking of greeting people, they always kiss priests' hands when they greet them.
