Hi pham :)

I was wondering - what's your favourite "updated" (wimple-less) veil? Please post a (link to a) picture if you have them.

Definitely the Nashville Dominicans.

And a shot so you can see the full habit and veil from the back.
(Good idea, Margaret Clare; thank you for the inspiration, haha!)

Personally, I find everything about them and their habit beautiful.
But maybe I'm a bit biased. :hehe:

Great topic! I was just thinking of this the other day when those SSVM Sisters spoke before Mass. I really love their long blue veils. They remind me very much of Our Lady.

Yes, the Servants of the Lord do have beautiful habits. And actually, I have a friend who will probably be entering the community two years from now!

The Sisters of Life, the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word, the Nashville Dominicans, they all have very similar habits and veils (though with different colors), and I happen to think they are all very lovely.

But I think I actually prefer the veils of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, which do not have the broad band around the front (for the Sisters of Life the band is blue). It's just a sleeker look.

Still, they're all beautiful, and yes the blue veils and habits of the Servants of the Lord are lovely.

I also like the veils and hoods of the Monastic Family of Bethlehem

I DON'T really like the veils worn by the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal - they look a tad uncomfortable to me, as do the similar ones worn by the Sisters TOR

http://www.torsisters.org/communitynews.shtml

But my favorite veils - and I know, I know, they're not "modern" belong to the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Los Angeles.

http://www.carmel-msh.org/FriendsofCarmel.html

I also like the veil of the Cistercians in Wisconsin
http://www.nunocist.org/

I had a friend who was a Benedictine Nun in Clyde, MO - they don't wear traditional habits; professed sisters basically wear dresses or skirt/blouses in "Benedictine" Black and White, but she said the choice to use a veil is a the sister's. She started out using a modern veil and found it hot and distracting.

http://www.clydemonastery.org/index.php

I always wondered if the nuns at OLAM find their veils - which include the white underveil - to be especially hot!

Speaking of which here are new pics of the PCPA's in Pheonix and the SMME sister together:

I know you said "modern" veils, and I usually don't get involved with these kinds of topics, but really, is there anything better than that picture of the Cistercian Nun? Just beautiful.

THAT'S WHAT WE USED TO SAY! :)) DSMME's don't use the broad plastic band, they use a tiny bone band that's connected to the black veil. It does look very very sharp, because there's no fussing with keeping the veil bunched under the band.

Thanks all :) And keep it coming!

I love the SSVM veil, especially the front. I don't like the "pointy" back that much - that is, I like it, but I prefer it non-pointy. :)

And praxedes and DameAgnes: yes, that really is a beautiful veil. I love it. Do you think it would be save to, for example, drive a car with it on?

Yes, I have a friend in that community and I have seen her drive. Also, the habit at Regina Laudis (abbeyofreginalaudis.com) is very similiar. If a Sister is really worried about it, she can always pull it back and tuck it (sort of like a long ponytail).

I also like the thinner band on the SMME veils. The Sisters of Reparation have something somewhat similar, though it's a pretty different veil than theirs altogether. I really like theirs too.

I think the SSVM veil is still my favorite, just because it reminds me of Our Lady so much, and how long it is. That's interesting about the pointy vs non-pointy end, VA. The parlor/choir veils of the Spanish Carmels have a pointy end, while the French ones usually do not, so I wonder if it has anything to do with how they're a more hispanic community - but probably not, just a random thought :j

Then I also love the veils of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate and the Missionaries of Charity.

Yes -- actually, that is Sr. Anna Laura, my now-former English teacher and the one that really got me thinking one night after an experience I had in Adoration that a religious vocation might actually be in God's plan for me. She is a beautiful woman, really a sweetheart, a great teacher, and very funny, too! And then of course the picture below it shows the joy of religious life, taken right after last year's final profession! Ah!
