After Confessing A Mortal Sin

After confessing a mortal sin (s) and being forgiven, does God still remember the sin(s) and will we be reminded of them when we die at judgement ?

I have heard that once we ask for forgiveness of a sin and God forgives us that we are to bring it up no more and God has forgotten about it. But then that sorta doesnt make sence if we have to be purged of those sins in purgatory ? So im kind of confused, thanks for the help. Godbless.

When we sin mortally we are faced with two punishments both eternal and temporal. The Sacrament of Reconciliation removes the eternal punishment and partially removes the temporal punishment that is caused by sin. Now, while we are no longer faced with eternal punishment after Confession we are still faced with the temporal punishment from sin. Temporal punishment is what is inflicted upon us in this world and in purgatory. Prayer, fasting, penance, etc. can help to remove the temporal punishment of sin. So, yes when we go to Confession and we receive absolution God erases the eternal punishment of that sin but the temporal punishment still remains. Temporal punishments remains to serve as a way to teach the sinner to sin no more and to learn from one's mistakes.

I hope this answers your question.

God Bless,
Jennie
