Era Might
Here are a few things that I noticed: 1) McCain kept referring to his experience. He would give examples of how he dealt with a particular problem, to show that he already has experience with those problems. 2) McCain kept saying that Obama "didn't understand" or something along those lines, which reinforced questions about Obama's experience. 3) Obama kept referring to McCain as "John" and kept looking at McCain. I think he did this because Jim Lehrer said at the beginning that he wanted them to talk directly to each other. But McCain never really did that. He referred to Obama as "Senator Obama" and never really looked at him. 4) Obama looked frustrated and too animated at times. McCain would smirk sometimes, but he never really showed any frustration. But Obama was constantly showing his disagreement and saying that McCain was incorrect about something. I think one part where Obama had a good answer was after McCain talked about the bracelet given to him by the mother of a dead soldier. Obama said he had a bracelet as well, which I thought showed that those kinds of personal stories that politicians tell may be nice stories, but every politician has stories. I'm not a really a fan of using stories like that for political purposes. Putting all politics aside, just based on impressions, I think McCain came across as more "presidential" than Obama. littleflower+JMJ
dude McCain SPANKED Obama. Hands down. Obama looked like he knew he looked ridiculous. Obama was like a broken record: "Bush failed in ______, I agree with John in everything he just said BUT I just think blah blah blah nothing really solid blah blah blah." What? I kept telling my brother can someone even win in a debate with a father of seven kids? I can only imagine family gatherings and having to be the final word. littleflower+JMJ
I have to say I only saw a couple of parts but I loved catching the part where he called Obama out on being the most liberal. That is why the media and hollywood loves him so much. So many people are falling for the new democrat when he's far from it. To be that far on the spectrum from the democrats themselves? S.c.a.r.y. Obama is more to the left than the guy Bernie Sanders who got elected to Congress, not as a Dem, but a Socialist. Obama is further left than the Socialist! That's no good.

And then Obama couldn't remember the name of the solder on the bracelet, so he had to pause a moment to glance at it as he said "ughhh..." yet again. HisChildForever
I have never heard Obama speak before - except little clips on the news - and I have to say, with all the buzz about him being so "inspirational" I thought he came across as a complete idiot. Sure, there were a couple of words McCain stumbled over, but c'mon, every sentence Obama spewed he was stuttering and "um"ing.

That was *pretty* weird if you ask me. It was hard to follow and understand him.

CatherineM
McCain probably had harder debates over the dinner table with his dad the admiral. Learning to think on your feet is definitely something one learns at one of our Academies. You'd think that Obama would have learned a few skills in Law School. Breaking yourself of saying UM is first week stuff.
