I'm fairly certain that dUst is the one that would have to do this, but he hates messages, so it comes here. I hope he sees it and the mods can pass it along. No, this is not a leaving thread. I'm already gone. I have the fortitude and discipline not to post, but it appears that I lack the ability to keep from looking at this place. If the hand causes you to sin, cut it off - which is what I hope to do by getting myself blocked. From what I understand, the forums won't even be viewable from my computer. I suppose if I'm wrong in that understanding, then there's no point and I'll have to figure out other means to stay away. If it does work, then I'll be posting again within the next few days from work so that you can have that IP and ban it too.

In case someone wants an explanation, basically, I find this place harmful to my journey in the faith. There are some great people here, but there are also some rather nasty ones as well who frankly, remind me of people like Jack Chick - unwilling to even listen to a differing opinion. From one member who decides to openly insult me for accepting evolution, to the member who makes topic after topic after topic complaining about the actions of complete strangers as though it could not have been a simply lapse in judgment (what happened to forgiveness?), to the mods who openly refuse to do anything about it.

It is compounded when I pray for those people and even approach them with charity, and only get attacked as if I were disagreeing with the pope directly. It makes me doubt the power of prayer, and by extension, God's existence. Again, I can keep from posting, but not from viewing the forums, and this is the only solution that I see.

*sigh* And I'm so frustrated with everything else happening in my life that I put this in the wrong forum. I suppose it'll get the attention it needs anyway.

I probably ought to make this thread disappear, but I'll respond to the comment about the mods: dUSt has made clear to us that he wants moderation to be as laissez faire as possible... phatmass got along for a long time without mods and we want an open environment with as little mod intervention as possible... if your spiritual nature is too sensitive for some of the boldness some people get when they have the veil of internet anonymity to embolden them, then by all means do not come here (your IP will not be banned for this purpose, sorry we don't do that, if it really concerns you get good website blocker software like some people do for pornography and have it be difficult or impossible for you to get the password to it)

if there are indeed ad hominem attacks, we will deal with them if you bring them up through the report system. abrasive ad argumentem attacks, however, are not against phorum guidelines even if they are made with ignorance or stupidity and even if someone has an obstinant opinion. you think that this website is contrary to your growth through Christ; let me gently suggest the possibility that learning to deal with people who have obstinant ignorance and might get a bit snippy or emotionally charged in a debate could be part of your growth in Christ. sounds to me like you expect everyone to be models of perfect charity and when they are not, you claim it harms your spiritual journey. we're not going to police the hearts and minds of people... strongly held and sometimes obstinant (and sometimes ignorant, even from the best-intentioned Catholics here) opinions are expressed here and that is NOT against the phorum guidelines. There is a wide range of acceptable opinions within the Church and Catholics have every right to think evolution is wrong (I do not, but some do), and they even have every right to debate with other Catholics and tell them that they think according to Church teaching evolution must be wrong... and you cannot just silence them with a papal quote saying it can be acceptable, you must accept that position and argue with their interpretation of those teachings if you really respect them as a brother in Christ with whom you wish to dialogue.

if we only had to deal with perfectly charitable people, it'd be pretty easy to be charitable ourselves would it not? but that's not real life, and that's not the spiritual journey God has laid out for any of us... the virtue of patience is important sometimes.

Why are you complaining? You aren't even stuck with an "I don't rep the pope" icon.

Anyway.

dUst, if you see this please check your e-mail messages.
