mommas_boy
I haven't been keeping up with the relatively recent swirl of controversy over Medjugorie. Can a Catholic still attend a pilgrimage there without sinning? I feel called to go, but want to make sure that it is still OK with the Church. Thanks in advance. Thy Geekdom Come
Medjugorje has not been condemned by the Catholic Church but has also not been formally approved by the Holy See. Because of it's status, Catholics are permitted to go on pilgrimage there, provided that the pilgrimage is not organized by any sort of official Church organization (for instance, parish-sponsored pilgrimages). This is not a sign of disapproval, it is only that the Vatican wants to make sure no one gets the wrong impression about the status of Medjugorje. Pilgrims may go individually or in groups, as long as the trip is not officially Church-sanctioned. God bless, Raphael
