tinytherese
There's a magician that's coming to my secular college. I'm not going myself as I know that that is against the faith, but I have a hard time explaining that to people. This magician is a famous one whose been on famous television shows and is supposed to be good at his illusions. Some of my friends just don't get what the harm would be to see such a show. They say that they don't believe in magic but that it's just for fun regardless if it is real or not. So what should I say to them?
Pontifex
The Catechism asks us to remove ourselves from sorcery, tarot cards, fortune tellers, etc. I do not think a "Magic Show" of lets say David Copperfield, is against our faith. No spirits are being conjured up or contacted, no spells cast, the future isn't being sought after. I've never felt convicted while watching David Copperfield, or Lance Burton. Fast Hands, Masters of Illusion: Good entertainment Use of spells, conjuring up spirits: Bad
