The question of the Sherrif being for life or against it is important to the laws he chooses to enforce or not enforce on Abortion Clinics, and the laws he chooses to enforce or not enforce against peaceful prolife protesters. The Sherrifs are right down there on the front lines of the culture war, the side they take will effect the kind of laws they enforce and how they enforce them.
then the question is: "does this person fairly apply the law or not"... I submit that the vast majority of people who are pro-choice would understand how to fairly apply the law on abortion protesters.

would a pro-life sherrif, then, enforce laws against pro-choice protesters more than against pro-life protesters? the assumption that one's stance on the pro-life issue is going to inherently affect the way they act as sherrif is ridiculous.

yeah, this is so true here in Aurora. As much as I would most rather the police to be objective, the pro-lifers have been screwed over too many times when protesting the new Planned Parenthood here that I truly believe it matters for the sheriff to be on your side.

A pro-life police chief/sheriff is more likely to enforce the 'less important' ordinances when a place like Planned Parenthood carelessly ignores them, giving the pro-lifers more of an upper hand in the community
please tell me HOW the office of sherrif is related to the pro-life cause... it ISNT. you would be perfectly fine electing a sheriff who was pro-choice because you are not electing him to any office that has any effect on that problem

it'd be like saying you can't hire a pro-choice secretary... ridiculous. you're basically hiring a man to do the job of sherrif. the question is "is he a good sherrif" not "what is his opinion on this issue that his office will not effect?"

a Nazi sherrif probably couldn't be trusted with that power because he might unfairly persecute Jews or something, and maybe just maybe a wacko nutjob pro-choicer couldn't be trusted if you thought that they might unfairly imprison pro-life protesters or something (but that is seriously stretching it, if the man understands the law and faithfully and evenly executes the law, then he's going to apply the same norms to everyone and the question is what angle will he take the police department in... only disqualify him if something leads you to believe that he plans to unfairly go arrest prolife protesters or something)
However, the sheriff could be using this office as a stepping stone to a higher office. Cut off the pro-aborts low, and there is less chance they will win higher office; grow the pro-life "farm team" so you have a good crop if candidates for higher office. As Ralph Rivera ( pro-life lobbyist in Illinois) said, that is why pro-life groips will rate even the candidates for dogcatcher.

Amen, brother! All politicians start somewhere. Sarah Palin was a local mayor to begin with.
