'Benedict expressed the spirit of the Rule, which is effective separation from the world, by living out its total reality in his own particular way. But after conforming himself to Christ in his tomb, the hour of resurrection had to arrive, so that he might appear as the type of resurrected life which his disciples profess and put at the service of the Church and the faithful. First, the hermit in the depths of his cave; later, as the abbot of twelve monasteries, he saw the field of the apostolate open before him.'

Anyway. We're back and we're kicking!
This is from Dom Guéranger, Spirit of Solesmes p.216. From the section "The Art of Spiritual Direction," it's taken from a letter to Dom Maurus Wolter (first Prior of Beuron) in May 1863.
Quote
Make yourself lovable always and in all circumstances. Be a mother rather than a father to your children.
Imitate the patience of God, and don't demand that spring bear the fruits of autumn.
Be always accessible to everyone; avoid etiquette and ceremony. Come as close as you can to the familiarity you have seen practised at Solesmes.
Adapt yourself to everyone, and don't try to adapt others to yourself; for God has created us all different, and you are the servant of all, like our Lord Jesus Christ.
Take scrupulous care of the health of each one, and don't wait for a serious illness before giving a dispensation.
Establish the observance progressively, and don't be afraid to retrace your steps if you have gone too far.
Don't be worried about any relations with the world that your monks may have, if they have the spirit of their state and if it is a question of the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
Remember that the spirit of faith is the only basis of the monastic life.
Inspire the love of the sacred liturgy, which is the centre of all Christianity. Have your monks study with love the Acta Sanctorum Ordinis, the Annals, and also the history of individual monasteries.
Make sure that they study theology, especially St. Thomas, canon law, and Church history.
Finally, strive to increase in your sons the love of the Church and of the Holy See."
And we can't be doing without pictures, can we? Here's one from the FSSP's photo album taken during the Ordinations at Fontgombault in 2004.

I know, it was a special occasion with more than normal - but look, a choir with loads of monks (et al.) in it. Praying together, because the Lord will bring us together to eternal life.

concerning the Moniales -- cloistered Benedictine nuns --
in the North American contingent of abbeys founded from Solesmes (France).
This information is available from the blog for the Oblature of the Montreal abbey of Solesmes Benedictine monks, at St Benoit du Lac.
On the Oblature blog the November newsletter is posted, and one of its paragraphs reads (original in French):
The nuns at the (Quebec) abbey of Mont-Laurier are taking steps to relocate, the remaining nuns are elderly, no new vocations.
The relocation process will probably require several years to accomplish.
No, there is no statement about the intended destination, or its location, to which the Mont-Laurier survivors will relocate.
However, their abbey was founded from:
St Marie des Deux Montagnes abbey of Solesmes Benedictine nuns, outside of Montreal (and not so far from St Benoit du Lac with its monks).
