EJames2 Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 "Thérèse" the 1986 Film (which is basically the filiming of the stage-play, ) by Alain Cavalier one need know Therese Life to follow the film..and of course its in French. what i do like is how the actress looks like here when she was young. The life of little St. Therese of Lisieux, depicted in minimalist vignettes. Therese and her sisters are all nuns in a Carmelite convent. Her devotion to Jesus and her concept of "the little way" to God are shown clearly, using plain modern language. Saint Therese Posted March 3, 2009 Share Posted March 3, 2009 No offense, but I disagree with both of your comments. The older film is really bizarre and the new one is just really poorly made. IMO. I have never seen the first one, but I've seen parts of it and didn't like it at all. I've also seen little bits and pieces of the "Miracle of St. Therese" which I thought was boring as a stump. I think some of the problem with a lot of Catholic movies is that they tend to overdramatize. I have tried to watch several, including "Maria Goretti", "Teresa of Avila", "Rita", etc. The only ones that I have watched and liked were "Clare and Francis", "Padre Pio: Miracle Man", and "Therese." "Therese" (2004) was a little too syrupy for me, but I love the story behind it. I eventually read all of "Story of a Soul", and was glad I did. I lent the "Therese" movie to my priest for him to watch because he loves St. Therese, but he disliked the movie. I understand why. [/quote] I think it was so beautiful how she converted to Catholicism from Quaker. In an interview I read, she stated how many have said that it was "quite a leap."
