Suggest An Order For Me?

I've been looking at a few orders but have yet to find one that really appeals to me. I'm looking to be a brother, maybe if a few things change a priest but with my situation at the moment just the brotherhood. I live in Australia and sadly we don't have as many options as you guys do in America and Europe. Many of the orders here have abandoned their traditional way of life.

I'd really love to teach or be involved in youth ministry. Anything that involves passing the faith onto young people. I'd love an order that retains the habit and has a solid prayer life. Using the EF Mass would be perfect, but I'm very happy with a well said Novus Ordo Missae. Right now my only options are the Franciscans of the Immaculate or perhaps the dominicans. I really wanted to become a brother in the Institute of Christ the King but they're all the way over in America and Italy. I wouldn't be able to visit their houses or speak face to face with the vocational director.

The only "traditional" order here is the FSSP and they don't have a brotherhood. Maybe if the SSPX is regularized I can join them, they have a seminary in Australia that also houses some brothers and it's beautiful.

Suggestions?

+Praised be Jesus Christ!

If you are able to move, I would like to suggest the Norbetines. I am not sure if they are in Australia.

Since I don't live in Australia and know nothing about the orders I am suggesting, I have to go by the website. Forgive me if I list orders that are not traditional. It's somewhat hard to tell from their website.

Missionary Society of St. Paul the Apostle, Australia
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/4439/

Order of Capuchin Friars Minor of Australia
http://www.capuchinfriars.org.au/
(From the website, this looks like a VERY solid Franciscan order)

Franciscan Friars, Province of the Holy Spirit
http://www.franciscans.org.au/index.htm

Congregation of the Resurrection
http://www.resurrectionist.net/

There's also a list of men's religious communities here:
http://www.catholicvocation.org.au/men-rel...ustralia-2.html

Hope this helps! God bless you. :D

LaSallians!!!

They have a great track record for working with young boys and turning them around. I wish they were in Philly.

HTH.

I have two friends who are postulants with them. They are a very good order and apparently one of their young priests is training to say the EF Mass.

They run the National Shrine of St. Anthony which is only a 15 minute train ride from my house.

We have Franciscans here who still wear the habit. There are special immigration rules in both the US and Canada when it comes to religious orders. If you got accepted, you'd get a special visa.

I'm pretty sure they don't even have brothers. They are all priests or studying for the priesthood.

CLINIC helps with that. I've thought about trying to get a clerkship with them. I can't think of a better way to use my training than to support vocations to the American church.

I'm not sure whether the Servi Jesu et Mariae have brothers, but they're really, really cool. Their main apostolate is the Catholic scouts movement. They live the pre-VCII Jesuit tradition (and the Jesuits had brothers...)

the Franciscans of the Immaculate came to my mind before you actually got to mentioning them. active, habit, very contemplative, EF Mass (soon?), traditional OF Mass, working with youth isn't a specific charism i'm aware of with the FI, but it may be possible if you show a special talent with them and there is a need ("evangelization by any licit means"). i'm reminded of the Australian brothers who were on their way to pro skateboarding before becoming FI friars, Fra. Gabriel and Fra. Francisco (there's a video of them in a skate park evangelizing youth).

do you have a spiritual director?

have you met with the diocese vocation director?

have you visited local monasteries, even if you don't necessarily feel called there? the retreat/quiet/direction can be helpful. e.g. even if you feel called to active life, spending time at a cloistered Benedictine monastery can be very fruitful.

prayers!

The FI's most definitely have the EF Mass. There were bunches of them on the Paris-Chartres pilgrimage and that's Traditional only. I believe their French province superior acted as Deacon during the High Mass of Pentecost.

Edit: this doesn't mean, of course, that all houses have it at all times.

With the motu proprio and influx of orthodox men to the seminaries I don't think it'll be too long before many orders have the EF Mass.
