Gregorius
A remember a summer camp I went to that had the remains of this extremely beautiful chapel deep in the woods. It had stained glass, altar rails, its own sacristy and confessional, and even its own place for a fire out back. When I got there, the tabernacle was open and empty, the altar was covered dust and pushed against the side wall. The sanctuary was covered with pew benches scattered about. All the drawers except for one were empty and recently stuffed with trash. And though it said a troop from Bogota refurbished it the previous year, it looked like it had not even been touched in years. So I secretly left my group to go fix it. I placed the altar next to the tabernacle and closed the door. I re-positioned the celebrant's chair and all of the pews I could move on my own. I removed the trash from the sacristy. The cabinet that did not have trash in it had two beautiful crucifixes in them. I took one and placed it on the altar. I noticed wooden candle holders on each of the four windows. There were six of them. I positioned them on the altar accordingly. I placed the holder for the Sacramentary on the epistle side of the altar. And I collected wood for a fire out back. Work still needs to be done, but I just couldn't leave such a once-glorious chapel in the state it was in. I know there are many faithful that attend that camp, and I would love to see the chapel put into use once again.

It merely states that, if a new church OF church is to be built, then any side altars should be in separate chapels. Obviously none of this applies to churches built exclusively for the EF, which has an entirely different set of liturgical regulations.
Mmm... my home diocese's (old) churches have had all their altars stripped and freestanding ones put up. It's iconoclastic, and it's sad. Veridicus
Here are pictures of the "improvements" made to my home parish where I grew up in Evansville. Saint Philip the Apostle, Mount Vernon, Indiana (part of the Evansville Diocese). Established in 1840. It should be noted that the minor altars were removed long before the construction of the new church in 200. [img][/img] Additionally telling is the change that took place in Evansville's "Christ the King" Catholic Church Edited October 15, 2009 by Veridicus
