Lovely Music

I was thinking about JoyfulLife's question, and MM post about a song she was meditating on, and thought that maybe we could use this thread to post songs that have inspired us with deeper love of God, helped us in our vocation, or are just plain beautiful, especially because music can be so powerful and inspiring. we could probably post poetry and other meditations too. I think we had a few songs in the Random Chat thread, but figured we could do a little more here. I'm excited to hear some new ones that might help me in my love!!

Vera Lynn is one of my favorite singers! She did a beautiful Abide With Me, but it looks like the video was taken off. But the one done by Celtic Woman is also good:

This is a wonderful idea for a thread, a great continuation!

When I was last on retreat, two weeks at a cloister in May/June, during office, one of the Sisters began reading from the book. There were words that struck me and I found them to be so beautiful. I just had to find out where it was taken from, and came to find out it was from the book Song of Songs. I'm not that familiar with the Old Testament so this was a new area of the Bible to me. I looked at many Bible versions and they differ in the wording of this, so I wrote down the interpretation that grabbed me the most...

The parts that struck me were:

"My beloved lifts up his voice
and says to me
COME then, my love,
my lovely one, come
. . .
Come then, my love,
my lovely one, come
. . .
show me your face,
let me hear your voice
for your voice is sweet
and your face is beautiful"

To look at that as God speaking it directly to me, as a love letter, it just draws me in. I want to find more of that, even in poetry from the Saints, or what God has spoken to the Saints, find it in the Psalms, etc.

My friend says she can see I'm a romantic at heart, and I guess I am starting to see that more now.

I love whenever the wording is rather poetic, and affectionate, lover talk. I've written down some wordings from readings I've done that struck me:
"how God was drawing her to Himself"
"if we want God to take hold of us"
"you belong to Him"

Before I became a Catholic in my adulthood, I would say I was a so-so believer. I wasn't raised with much in the faith. Anyhow, I was always drawn to romantic stories in movies, and especially love music. Whatever stirred my emotions with affection and love. I was into like "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel, "Groovy Kind of Love" by Phil Collins, "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin, Celine Dion music, Gloria Estefan, Rod Stewart The Great American Songbook covers type music, etc. I have stopped listening to secular music for some years now, rather I am getting into Church music, gregorian, classical, jazz, etc. It is amazing how music, poetry, etc. can lift you up and take you to another place. I'm still pretty new to this music, but there are some songs I've come to like, such as "You Are Mine," Marian songs, "Lead Me Lord," "Jesus, I trust In You" by Angelina, "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban, etc. The FI sisters sing beautifully, and quite uniquely. One of the problems I used to have with secular love songs is that I used to feel like I was giving my heart to the singer, away from Jesus, and getting crushes. I still somewhat have that feeling at times.

There is absolutely beautiful, the best I've heard for it, Divine Mercy Chaplet audio tape put out by the St. Faustina sisters. It was made in Italy. I wish all convents had music like that, it's just beautiful, and they have a man speaking as Jesus things He spoke to St. Faustina, it's a wonderful tape. Unfortunetly, they don't make it anymore.

There is a nature scenery with Christian music video that I just love. http://www.amazon.co...l/dp/6302934826 I put a "*" next to the songs I really like:
How great Thou art -- In the sweet by and by -- His eye is on the sparrow -- Amazing Grace* -- Deep river -- Nearer, my God, to Thee -- Will the circle be unbroken -- Ave Maria -- Sanctus from Faure's Requiem -- What a friend we have in Jesus -- Sheep may safely graze* -- Holy, holy, holy -- Sweet hour of prayer -- Jesu joy of man's desiring* -- Just a close walk with Thee -- Ode to joy -- Abide with me -- Going home.

There is a wonderful movie I just love. I love it so much and have rented it from the library frequently, so my friend actually bought it for me. It is called "Fireproof" with Kirk Cameron. Even the music I love! It is Christian and the music is a little too rock, but the melody and lyrics are beautiful. The movie is CLEAN and most of the people in it are actually volunteers from Churches! Kirk Cameron is now a good Christian from what I've learned and he did a wonderful job acting in this movie and I think his faith was a big part of it. What I really love about the movie is seeing the conversion process of people coming to Jesus, the struggle and sacrifise, and spouses guiding eachother to Christ. It touches me deeply seeing them realize what life is all about and what marriage really is, and seeing the transformation of heart in Christ. I would love to see a part two of the spouses discovering the Catholic faith and having a big family. The way they filmed it is visually, musically, and story-wise beautiful. I have cried through many parts when I watch it. I feel I come close to the love, mercy, and beauty of God when I get into this movie. Being a convert to the faith myself, I can connect to it and reflect on my own experiences. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Amazing Grace

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it's not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve you while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting on You, Lord

John Waller - While I'm Waiting (Fireproof)

You run, you hide
As tears fall from your eyes
They fall like snow
From a wounded soul
You hold inside
The hurt of great divide
The hole is starting to get old

So come back to the light
To the love, you will find
It's been here all along
So come back to the start
And you'll find in your heart
That you always belonged
To me

Just take the rope
I won't let it go
Give in
We can start again
I'm life, I'm hope
And I'm ready to explode
With how bad I want you back home

So come back to the light
To the love, you will find
It's been here all along
So come back to the start
And you'll find in your heart
That you always belonged
To me

You're my daughter, you're my son
You're the one I long to love
And you've heard I chose to die
Do you know you're the reason why?

So come back to the light
To the love, you will find
It's been here all along
So come back to the start
And you'll find in your heart
That you always belonged
To me

Grey Holiday - You Belong To Me (Fireproof)

Isn't that just beautiful?

I just love the chorus of the two young women in the background. Their voices are beautiful. They are beautiful women, they look so pure and innocent, perhaps future nuns? Anyone know what they are saying in the chorus?

I can't help but think of God during country love songs... at least some of them anyways...

Will you come and follow me
If I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know
And never be the same?
Will you let my love be shown,
Will you let my name be known,
Will you let my life be grown
In you and you in me?

Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
In you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see
If I but call your name?
Will you set the pris’ners free
And never be the same?
Will you kiss the leper clean,
And do such as this unseen,
And admit to what I mean
In you and you in me?

Will you love the ‘you’ you hide
If I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
And never be the same?
Will you use the faith you’ve found
To reshape the world around,
Through my sight and touch and sound
In you and you in me?

Lord, your summons echoes true
When you but call my name.
Let me turn and follow you
And never be the same.
In your company I’ll go
Where your love and footsteps show.
Thus I’ll move and live and grow
In you and you in me.

I'm happy for you. It was actually kind of funny. I was reading a sisters vocation story today on an order's site, and she mentioned that when she realized her call, this song was part of it, it spoke to her. Anyway, she mentioned the song title, and I thought "hmm, what's that?" So I looked it up just now, and I know that song after all.

Thanking Blessed Mary :

Such a beautiful sight
Entered into my life
It just conquered the fright
To meet the Mother of all life

A pounding of frozen streets
When she bled to the sea?
And the deepest essence of me
Was the day my spirit was free

Chorus:
Oh I'm
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life

Temptation messed me around
When she picked me up from the ground
And taught me to never let go
Of your God-given soul

Sometimes I still lose my mind?
When life is cruel and unkind
It's when I suffer without learn
Depending of love will burn

Chorus:
Oh I'm
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life

Yes, my faith is purely new
She guides me to
Eternal life and to the truth
Ohohohohoh

Yes my faith is purely new

Chorus:
Oh I'm
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life
Divine
Thanking blessed Mary for life

Temptation messed me around
When she picked me up from the ground
And taught me to never let go
Of your God-given soul
(hohaohaohaoha)

laetitia crucis

Getting ready for bed, but just wanted to stop by the VS. :grouphug:

Here's two of my favorite songs:

"Agony in the Garden" -- Danielle Rose

"Holiness is Faithfulness" -- Danielle Rose

And "Crown of Thorns" by Danielle Rose, which is probably my favorite song of hers... can't find a video or mp3 for it, but here are the lyrics:

My seed was born
One bright spring morn
In gardens grown by God.
Out of the earth
My stem gave birth
To petals red as blood.

The gentile rain
My growth sustained,
And like each seed God sows,
I dreamed one day
That I'd be named
A king's most precious rose.

One day a soldier
Bent me over,
Tore me from my bed.
All beaten, battered,
My stem tattered,
Wanted but for dead

In cruel hands ripped,
My beauty stripped,
'Twas not the dream I chose,
And filled with shame,
I wept in pain,
No more a precious rose.

Then I did see
The soldiers lead
A man through palace doors.
Was this my king?
Why did they bring him in,
This man so poor?

A purple garment
Hid the torment
None but I could see.
They mocked and laughed,
Gave him a staff,
And bowed on bended knee.

They bent me round
And wove a crown
And placed me on his head.
My petals found
Crushed on the ground,
Like tears of God turned red.

With each small sin
I was pressed in.
I pierced with self-disdain.
In thought and deed
I made him bleed,
My selfishness, his pain.

"Behold!" they'd sing,
"Behold your King!
Hail, King of the Jews!"
With each reed's blow,
Our pain did grow,
As one we were abused.

Despite the crown
He did not frown;
He smiled with love instead,
And carried me
For all to see
Upon his tender head.

Once placed with awe
In manger straw,
Anointed by John's hands,
Transfigured on
A mountain dawn,
Now wore a mangled branch.

Once gently kissed
By Mary's lips,
And blessed with magi's myrrh,
Baptized by
A parting sky,
Now streamed with blood so pure.

An innocent brow
Calls to us now
To follow this example:
To let our thorns
And all that scorns
Be healed within his temple.

Though dreams may fade,
Each one was made
In seed that Jesus sows.
And now I see
I'm called to be
The King's most precious rose.
