With the coat make sure is is super warm. SrMJ is always concerned about you freezing when you come!
I'm not sure if they have them out in FL but ARC is another thrift shop that you might want to look at for the coat

As for the socks these are slightly expensive but I have some (or some really similar) and they are warm and last forever.

Here is another option, again a bit expensive but Eddie Bauer stuff lasts a long time and it has a lifetime guarantee if it doesn't

Thanks for the recommendations TT. Yeah I'm super concerned about freezing too. I was looking at liner socks even but my friend has convinced me that it won't really be needed. We'll see....

This http://www.phatmass....__fromsearch__1 was a really good thread about trousseau items - I ended up finding perfect postulant skirts via a recommendation from that thread.

I have to say, much as I rain on the Romantic Parade, it is quite fun to get your nun stuff together (money notwithstanding :)). There is an air of Christmas over it all

Thanks for the link Marigold.

I could crochet you some slippers (or a hat and mittens.)

Gasp!!! That looks sooo good. And I do need bedroom/night slippers so that would be amesome. Would there be a possibility of putting something in the soles so that I could walk around the convent with them?

p.s. I would need them in Black or a Dark Navy Blue... Maybe one of each?

Obviously it would be amesome if you could find something at goodwill or another thrift store.

If you can't: http://www1.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/bcf/Full-length-Woolen-Coat-with-Fly-front-111934136.aspx

My list is coming along pretty well. PMing you :)

It totally didn't occur to me. I was looking at one of the links MM gave me and there are Liner socks (I'm thinking what the heck is that?) and then I realize in some areas pholks put socks on top of socks!!!!

Who knew?

Thanks MM,

That site is very helpful (the STP one)

I am hoping to get everything on my list (excluding the books needed) for no more than $250 (God help me find a wool coat as part of that price)

Go to Burlington Coat Factory for coats. They had some amesome sales there went I went to get my down-filled parka. It wasn't more than $100. The wool coats were even less at about $79. :)

Lisa,

Have you gotten your "simple" watch yet? lol. I have been looking for watches and can't seem to find one. I don't use one and since I'm sure SrMC won't let bring my phone to tell time, I need to start finding one.

Maybe.... I might have to tweek a pattern. I'll PM you... .
I would really like to have the pattern, too --- I knit [or is it crochet?], and need slipper-socks like that in the winter around the house very much! Not to hijack the thread, PM me, or send a link or the pattern to my email which I'll give you if you PM me.

I tried to PM you, but it wouldn't go through. The pattern is for crochet slipper/socks.

HB, I'm guessing that the kind of watch you are talking about is non-digital and is not fancy. I've included a few links for your convenience:

Thanks MM! I've actually seen two of these (on a different site) at a few dollars more. I think I might just look for some down south when I go to see my parents next... I might even be able to "steal" one of my mom's watches.

I collect Casio Baby-G watches. They are indestructible, and you don't have to worry about taking them off for showers or dishwashing. I have worked on watches since I was a kid. I buy big sacks of broken ones to recycle into working watches. I would love to send you one as a "wedding" present. Just PM me your address, and if it has to be black or if you'd prefer a colored one. In black/brown I have:
This is a BG-140 that I have in brown.
BG-325 in black. This is called a reverse display. It's muted. I find them hard to read, but I know military guys like them.
The one I have is black, but not the butterfly version. This would be my pick for you because the tripper version is great when you are calling home across time zones. It actually has a function that allows you to set the alarm to go off at 9pm in the Eastern time zone without having to do the math in your head. As an example I use one when my husband is in Europe and he asks me to call him at the hotel at 5pm.

I will make sure it has a new battery, new gasket, completely waterproof, and with a photocopied manual. Batteries last about 3 years, and if you send it back to me, I'll put a new one in and reseal it up again. My watches come with lifetime guaranties. It gives me an excuse to work on them again.

I would invest in a few pairs of Cuddly Duds or whatever they're called. They are SO comfortable and last a long time. And old lady at the monastery introduced me to them (by buying some for me) because I was cold all the time. They worked great. I got wool socks at REI one time when I needed them for hiking. But I'm from the deep south so I'm not keen on where to shop for warm stuff.
