Came across this article.  What does it mean.  Remember, I'm not particularly theological.

The Fractured Face of Carmel

Web Page Preface

"The renewal of religious life mandated by Vatican II has given rise to two major interpretations of Carmelite life. One focuses on the ministry of contemplative prayer and the retrieval of mysticism, particularly Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Thérèse of Lisieux, etc. This reading of the charism stresses presence (Ad gentes, no.18) and is willing to experiment with various ways the life of etc etc etc

tl;dr :/

Came across this article.  What does it mean.  Remember, I'm not particularly theological.

Baltimore Carmel is about 20 min. from my folks.  They are very modern.

The article is also very modern in its perspective on the history and development of the two separate Constitutions (one approved in 1990, another approved in 1991) there are now for Discalced Carmelite Nuns. It's a summary of the longer dissertation on the subject - Post-conciliar Renewal of the Legislative Texts for the Order of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (1995) by Sr. Mary Kate Kuenstler, P.H.J.C.

I think this was the first thread I ever started here on VS all the way back in 2006!! that addresses this - http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/topic/58540-the-discalced-carmelite-nuns-1990-1991-constitutions/  I remember I decided to write it in part because this Fractured Face article on Baltimore Carmel's site was the only thing online at the time explaining the two different Constitutions, and it is very biased against the 1990s. I learned of the history and differences from the Prioress of the first 1990 Carmel I visited. I had no idea before and hadn't seen the article online.

Another good source now is this Spanish blog that recently came up - http://carmelitasdescalzas1990.blogspot.com/  You can use Google translate to try to read it, though a friend of mine (not me, seriously! lol) started an English version of it here - http://discalcedcarmelites1990.blogspot.com/  I'm not sure if she'll ever have time to go back and finish it though.

Anyway, if you read my thread and/or that blog you'll get it. Also, to let you know, I had the first post there edited a few weeks after I wrote it to be more general, so the conversation after it doesn't exactly flow right.

Also, I want to say again as I did in the thread, there are many good and traditional Carmels under the new (1991) Constitutions :like:

You're welcome! And here I just bumped a thread that's related to this (read the part about why she decided to go to Spain rather than her own country) and also is just a cool story!! :nunpray: http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/topic/109813-croatian-actress-professes-solemn-vows-in-avila/

I've contacted them [Loretto Carmel] several times and they've never gotten back to me. I know it's a Carmel but still.

Maybe they never received it... I've heard of this happening before many times,  though sometimes it's God allowing this to direct us to where He is calling us. But I would try again if you really feel drawn there. :mail:

The Carmelite Monastery of Flemington is only about an hour away from my house! I am thinking about organizing a visit with them during the summer. Has anyone very visited them?

That's awe.some! They're a very good community from all I've heard. I met a couple priests (one was Fr. James Kubicki, SJ http://www.apostleshipofprayer.org/) who have given retreats to the community and both really like them. They are under the 1990s, to let you know.

Here's a couple articles on them, http://00eb9ba.netsolhost.com/stories/2008/9_11_08/trilogy.html  &  http://00eb9ba.netsolhost.com/stories/2006/june/0629solemn.html  I like the way they pin their veils down. They are French, but the way they pin them across their foreheads makes them look Spanish :mex:  rather than on top as most of the French do :french: Anyway, more random info on Carmel not necessary for your salvation :tomato:

Well, I suppose I should comment on this since I do know these sisters, personally and I know their situation, and by that I don't mean by merely what I have read on the internet. I know for a fact that the priests who minister to them...the priests at Servants of the Holy Family are in fact in union with Rome, regularly have Apostolic visitors, and do, yes, do have faculties (and that includes for hearing Confessions)....faculties given from the local bishop even. Bishop Sheridan even when personally speaking to my brother told him that he had given them faculties when my brother asked him. So, it is very strange to me that this faulse information continues to be circulating around the internet. If you do not want to have anything to do with them because they question the Novis Ordo, then that is one thing, but please stop passing on this faulse information of not being in Union with Rome because it is faulse.

Okay, I just moved the conversation here concerning the CO Springs Sisters to this thread in Debate Table - http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/topic/118055-please-be-careful/?p=2572650  Debating and discussing non-approved communities is not allowed in VS. If you want to discuss further, please do so over there. Thanks!

There is another Carmel in CO that is in union with the Church. It is in Littleton CO. I'm not exactly sure about how often they have Latin Mass but there is an FSSP parish right down the street from them. Right now that parish is undergoing complete renovation (ok they are completely rebuilding) so the parish use the Monestary for some of the Latin. They do not have an internet presence but you can find their contact information online.

Here is an article about a solemn profession they had last year. http://www.archden.org/index.cfm/ID/8335

meant to post this before, the FSSP priests offer the Traditional Latin Mass for Littleton Carmel every Monday and cover when the chaplain is away. I heard this month they even had it all week because of this :like:

Please pray for the Valparaiso foundation in Canyon, CA.  I  was speaking with someone who has two daughters one in Valparaiso and the other in Canyon.  It seems that their was a misunderstanding with the land they thought they were being given, but it turns out that it was only for their use until they could find permanent lodgings.  Also, they have no water.

Totally Franciscan

Hopefully the new Oakland bishop, Fr. Michael Baker I believe is his name, will help them.  He will be installed the end of the month.  What a horrible turn of events for these nuns.

Sounds like something that would happen to St. Teresa of Avila.  Praying for a new home for this foundation.

Oh my. How difficult... For a while the Wichita Carmel had no water too. I wish they could go to the former monastery in Kensington, which was very beautiful and Spanish, although I've heard it's in bad condition... I believe they tried to go there before Elysburg and it didn't work out, but they were still hoping to go to the Diocese of Oakland.
