Praised be Jesus Christ! Hello Gracian! You're very welcome! The book is out of print and I just happened to have found it on amazon used, http://www.amazon.com/Flame-Joy-Souvenirs-Autobiography-Marie-Angelique/dp/B000H9EA4Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375037210&sr=8-1&keywords=%22flame+of+joy%22+angelique It was translated and published by the Eugene, OR Carmel. I have the original French copy of it as well, Flamme de Joie which I plan to give to a French speaking friend. You could write them to see if they have any more copies and also to encourage them to republish it!! http://aquerofoundation.com/id13.html  It is so incredibly beautiful!!

As a quick note, I tried my best with taking pictures of the photos above with my digital camera, as the book is one of those that is not possible to open all the way (without ruining it) but very tight binding. I was going to crop the second two as as I did the first, but it kept leaving out important parts of the photo when I did, like the top of the candle or the cloister stairway, so I just left it.

I did scan this one this morning though of St. Teresa of the Andes, which I posted here, http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/topic/129636-religious-of-the-sacred-heart-of-florence/?p=2611248

Also, I posted this in another thread a few days ago, but in case you missed it, http://www.lasvegasmariancenter.com/MONSIGNOR.Carmelites.use.pdf

God bless!!

I see that this book was translated by Sister Miriam of Jesus, she is the Foundress of Eugene Carmel and she died several years ago.  Here is the website if her biography: http://www.aquerofoundation.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/sistermiriambiographyoriginal.pdf

Unfortunately, I cannot download them as the file is to big for my poor old laptop.  Can you please email me a copy?

We have one Prioress whose name is also Angelique.  She is a foundress of Gumaca Carmel and her name is Mother Catherine Angelique of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Thank you for sharing that, Gracian! Yes, I can send you a copy of that. Downloads here fine. Sr. Miriam translated so many Carmelite works into English from French, thanks be to God, like the biography of Blessed Mariam of Jesus Crucified too, http://www.amazon.com/Mariam-little-Arab-Crucified-1846-1878/dp/B00070U9GI

Those prices are so high there. You can still get it from Eugene for $8 ~ http://www.aquerofoundation.com/id19.html  I ordered some books from them once. Sent a check in the mail.

Praised be Jesus Christ! :)

Happy feast day of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary to all. May She intercede for our intentions.

I wanted to share this beautiful article, and pictures!, of the entrance of a woman into the Elysburg Carmel on the feast of St. Teresa of the Andes (Jul 13th.)

Here are some more beautiful pictures!

http://ourcatholicfamilylife.blogspot.com/2013/08/channing-enters-carmel.html (take a look at the cute little baby and what he's wearing; so sweet!)

Here is a video of her talking about her vocation and the Carmel (for most of the video anyway:)

Other news; this Carmel will be having a First Profession on October 15th; the feast of our Holy Mother Saint Teresa.

I love the photos specially with the Prioress and the postulant.

One of the beautiful Carmelite customs being observed in most monasteries for admission of postulants - at the enclosure door, Mother Prioress holding out the crucifix to postulant to kiss - Prioress is saying "Passio Christi comforta me."

Really lovely....

But just to clarify! Not allowing photos has nothing to do with the norms for Papal enclosure. There is nothing in the document about photos. This a particular custom of some Carmels. Imagine if we didn't have the photos of St. Therese and Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity!

The JMJ Carmels do allow photos, but ask that they not be posted online. I wonder if perhaps it is strictly the family that can take pictures in the parlor. I have seen a couple of new postulants and Novices in the parlor at Valparaiso. One was a little entrance memorial card they made for the family.

But yeah, each Carmel/cloistered monastery can discern and decide what is best for their particular community.

Speaking of, here are a couple pictures from a First Profession at Alexandria, http://www.thomasaquinas.edu/alumni/faith-action-blog/more-delightful-news

I have not read any no law that forbids the cloistered nuns from taking photos even before Vatican II.  But due to their vow of poverty, photo equipment is not on their top priority to acquire before or after Vatican II.  Normally, their friends donates their old camera or digital camera to Nuns when they decide to upgrade their device.  That's where they get their device - computers, laptops, digital camera, TV, etc and even coffins - by donations.

Celine brought here own photo equipment with her when she entered Lisieux Carmel, hence, the community were able to take a lot of photos but these photos are for community use or for the family of Nuns, not for the public.

The photos of St. Therese were only published in public when they organized her beatification and canonization and of course the publication of her autobiography.  Her autobiography is meant to be circular for other Carmels but the rest is history.

The family of the nun are usually allowed to take photos and at times, researchers are allowed with permission from the Bishop.  It really depends on each Carmel.

There are thousands of photos of Discalced Carmelite Nuns floating on the web as we speak even those monasteries following the 1990 Texts.

Beautiful pictures! They are great Carmel.

I only know that when a Sister in Elysburg has a Clothing pictures are taken of her in the enclosure for the family; wearing her Mantle and crown of flowers. I would imagine that its the same for First Vows and Solemn Vows. Maybe most communities do this also?

Its really great to be there when a Sister has a Clothing or a profession because everyone there that came, and not just family, can go to the speak room and see Sister and to ask for her prayers. Its kind of like a quick passing through but its still great and then the family comes in and stays with her for a visit. :)

Beautiful. I enjoy so much an entrance picture into Carmel. When the Reverend Mother welcomes her with a Crucifix to kiss; it is so touching. Thank you for sharing!
