LAMP Catholic Ministries is a New York City-based lay missionary association.  It has "missionaries" a little like FOCUS does (Fellowship of Catholic University Students).  People from all states of life are in it.  It's focused on work among the materially poor.  It's pretty wonderful.

Resurrecting this thread because I spoke with two discerners who recommended these communities :

http://www.mepasie.org/ Paris Foreign Missions Society. They are missionary priest who evangelize Asia. Amazing. If you meet a MEP priest, they always have some amazing stories to told. I wanted to be a volunteer, but can't because of my health - it's tough. They have a very high number of Saints because of all their priests who were persecuted. Theophile Vénard, that Ste Thérèse de Lisieux loved, is one of them. They're also very intelligent - the priest I met spoke 5 languages : french, english, normal language in his country, and two dialect.

http://www.vincentian.org/ The vincentians brothers and priests were founded by St Vincent de Paul. Do you need more ? They work with the poors.

http://www.jesuscaritas.info/jcd/lbj Litle brothers of Jesus, who live with the poors according to the spiritualizy of Nazareth and of Charles de Foucauld

http://www.communautedelagneau.org/en/ Little brothers of the Lamb. I spoke with them. They're lovely. They are mendicants dominicans, with St Francis of Assisi and St Dominic as saints patrons. They are in the US : http://www.communautedelagneau.org/en/little-brothers-kansas-city/
