Feast of Our Lady of The Rosary

Today for us in Australia, it is the Feast of Our Lady of The Rosary https://universalis.com/australia/today.htm

In some places, this day is shared with John Henry Newman - see above link and scroll down.

It was on this Feast of O.L. of The Rosary that many years ago indeed now I first made my private vows for life after seeking advice from a priest who knew me well.  I have a signed dated and witnessed paper here somewhere.   It is now just over 5 years since I renewed my life private vows at a Home Mass with the Archbishop's permission.  The Home Mass was on the Feast of The Assumption in 2014.  As a child I used to say that when Our Lady went to Heaven, my Mum came down to earth. :) 15th August.

October is an important month for me for the above reasons.  Also October is the month dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary "The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7."

I am particularly close to the Carmelite nuns (have been since I was 16 years of age and still am at 74 years of age almost).  Two Carmelite nuns were present with other guests at my Home Mass including a Carmelite prioress) and the Feasts of St Therese of the Child Jesus (my Confirmation patron) and that of St Teresa of Jesus (a particular saint I love) are in October, along with the Feast of The Guardian Angels (devotion began as a child - walking to weekday Mass in near darkness, I used to speak with them.  Our Church of St Joseph then was a very short distance at the end of our street, along with St Joseph's primary school where I attended.

I have great devotion to Our Lady and her Rosary from childhood, learnt at my Dad's knee as it were.  The Rosary was my very first experience of real prayer (rather than that of childhood) during my mid teens.

I am a dinky die Aussie shielah (not Irish meaning) now and then lapsing into cuss words.  I have a smoke now and then and really like a glass of dry red claret with a smoke.  Nothing whatsoever overtly pious about me, rather plenty that is unholy :)   My spirituality I call "my spiritual petticoat".  I love to laugh and socialise.  My dislikes are sex and violence on TV or any other media.  I do not like kidneys of any kind, but really like immensely lambs brains boiled in water until cooked, but not over cooked (then fried in flour and breadcrumbs) then refrigerated before eating with bottle beer -  and tripe (cooked in white sauce and onions with parsley) along with sheep's tongues (boiled until cooked and then refrigerated before eating), finally lamb's fry with bacon (lamb's liver covered in flower and fried with bacon. Served with brown sauce made out of ingredients

_____________

Sheilah is not used in Australia nowadays.  In my teens it was a term for a quite down to earth ordinary friendly very ordinary young Aussie gal - it was Australian slang.  It is rare to hear it nowadays except possibly by men who work in rural areas.  Absolutely never at any time ever used by the more middle and upper classes.

More formal definition of Aussie Sheila - A great and loving person someone that you can call a sister. The most amazing cook ,generous heart, caring and loving. She is Funny and loves to Dance even if it is to her own music. Life is full of fun and funny stories with lots of laughter when you are with her. She pushes her self out of her comfort zone to accomplish the tasks that's placed before her with a job well done. When you are sad or feeling ill she is the first one to respond to your side https://www.google.com/search?q=slang+meaning&oq=slang+meaning&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.3471j1j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
