Gambling

When I went to Las Vegas... I gambled $70.... that was for about 15 hours of entertainment... It was a blast.

If you don't have self discipline, it's stupid to gamble, but if you can set aside $x to have a good time on, if you loose it, you won't miss it, and it brings you hours of joy... then great.

But as far as it being wrong... the only thing besides the Church we have to go on is what Joan of Arc said, but that was in a movie and I don't know how true it is. That "God does not like gambling".... maybe that's where the prots get it.

TOO MANY MOVIES!!!

You would think differently if you lived in my neighborhood.....

A few days ago there was a major raid of several bars in the Chicagoland area that had video poker games that people would gamble on. Guess what "m-word" was mentioned????

And as far as the whole "the government needs the money for this or that"......

In Illinois, 30 years ago, the lottery was sold as a way of funding education. Well guess what - 30 years later and now it's the riverboats that are needed (one of which they want to open only a few miles from where I live)...now we need the land based casinos.....what next???? For something the lottery was supposed to take care of 30 years ago?? YEAH.......RIGHT......

Besides, I hate waiting in line at the 7-11 for 5 minutes just to pay for a gallon of milk while someone takes their time purchasing lottery tickets that probbaly required a tree to be cut down to supply the paper....

Some protestants disagree with it because it's part of the slippery road of 'placing your faith in fate' eg. the roll of the dice, rather than trusting in God to meet all your needs.......reading horoscopes is part of that slippery road too......

There's plenty of money for education, the problem is the people spending are not wise in the way they spend it.

For example, in FL, every HS student is getting a brand new Apple notebook.

1.) 95% of businesses are on PC

2.) The majority of kids are not going to take care of them

3.) Support is going to be a nightmare because they're going to get so many viruses and hacker garbage on them and bring it into the school's network

4.) It's a big waste of money; they are learning a system that is virtually worthless in the business world

Other things that the brainchilds that are choosing what to buy are things like $90,000 for Sony Playstation II's.

The general public seems to think throwing money at the schools will help. The problem (at least here in FL) is the curriculum... not to many kids... not a lack of money... but low standards and the kids go unchallenged.

i think it is really funny how Mississippi, the most Baptist state in the Union, is surviving on a Casino/lottery based economy.

Then why not just give the money to the senior citzens or schools instead of wasting it? I garuntee you they don't see much of it.

um, yeah...

are you talking about the gambling like, money and chips gambling, or the verb gamble?

we take gambles every day, risking things on a "flip of a coin".

for me, every time i set my alarm clock is a gamble! i may or may not hear it and sleep through my class! is it wrong to spend the money on an alarm clock, hoping to make it through school by waking up for classes on time, earning a degree, yeilding more money?

that formula is a little money now, and a lot of money if everything works out.

or, i go to the casino w/ the 29.99 i was going to spend on a premium alarm clock and "hit it big" on the craps table, yeilding more money.

formula:

little money now, and a lot of money when everything worked out.

does this mean that we can only "gamble" when the odds are in our favor? it's easier to wake up for class than to win a ton of loot at the casino, but nevertheless, these are being presented as similar situations with different circumstances...

so, what's the deal?

Gambling is also the most addictive of addictions. So in that respect it can be very dangerous.

More addictive than cocaine or heroin? More addictive than Meth? Somehow this statement seems, well, overstated.

Hey, like we've said before . . . twins seperated at birth? long lost brother/sister? We have a real alma fraternitas (bad Latin) . . . brotherhood of the soul . . .

I'll see you this summer, in Vegas, where we can do that street evangelizing thing and take breaks by hitting the slots with a couple of Jack and Cokes!
