inperpetuity Posted October 6, 2014 Share Posted October 6, 2014 I have prayed the office in Latin in community and on my own, and all I can say is that once I experienced praying it in Latin, I loved it so much I never went back to praying it in the vernacular. I am glad to hear that you were pleased with the Latin and would not go back. Is it because personally you feel an increased reverence? A heightened sense of mystery? I am guessing you did not fully comprehend the Latin when you started. Did you find that this did not inhibit prayer? Perhaps I should start a new thread.. Thank you for your response, inperpetuity! I hope I am expressing myself clearly-I feel I might be making little sense! Obviously many feel more comfortable and prayerful praying the Office, etc in the vernacular, but I would appreciate the experience of those who feel drawn to the Latin. Thank you! Well, there's a difference between the OF and EF office in Latin. I've never done the OF in Latin, only the 1962 breviary. Then again, there would be a big difference between the monastic diurnal in Latin and the Carmelite rite office. That being said, I much prefer the EF office to the OF. It's longer, has retained hymns and such. Actually, I didn't like the longer office at first, but now I don't mind it. I don't pray it as regularly as I should, but it's now my go-to. I decided to pray it because then I wouldn't have to mix calendars between the OF and the EF since I attend the EF Mass. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No, your right I did not comprehend it but somehow my soul did. Quite the opposite surprisingly, it definitely deepened it! I have used only the pre-VII Benedictine Diurnal and Roman Breviary. It's called the Investiture Ceremony.
