St. Cecilia's.

Beautiful. I know St. Cecilia's has about thirty sisters, but I believe their chapel holds nearly 100. Just think, once all those stalls or most of them were full.

Interesting, is this a Discalced Carmelite monastery? I couldn't figure it out for sure from their site.

Yep, they’re Discalced.
Here’s a little blurb on their Monastery in Transylvania from the OCD website:

I visited their Skete last yr for the beautiful feast of the Transfiguration – it truly is a little piece of Heaven on Earth…

Ten sisters at St Elizabeth's Convent in Minsk were Tonsured on the 10th April this year.

Welcome, Stephen! :welcome:

That is the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary of Belgium -- the 'Nuns Story' community. (For those who read the book, they mentioned how the newly vested novices were shown how to pull to coif (headpiece) up and forward -- and it is very clear what they meant from that picture. It also makes it very clear from the habit that they had Cistercian roots....

If you haven't checked out the 'on live archive' of the community it is fascinating -- pictures, documents, artifacts. Absolutely worth wandering through .... and be sure to read about the priest and sister who were their founders, and what their original horarium and lifestyle was like -- a very good example of trying to live as if in a cloister while undertaking a full apostolic lifestyle. Then go back and read the Nun's Story (or watch the movie) again... and it will explain much more of Sr. Luke's internal struggle..... (not to hijack -- there are already 2 Nun's Story threads... but it is interesting to see the actual photo!)

Here's the link to their archives! The links to the good stuff are at the bottom -- VERY unobtrusive! Don't miss them!

Here's another picture -- you can see that she's wearing her 'choir cowl' above, and the black scapular on her regular habit below -- very Cistercian!

They nursed, and taught, in that habit in Europe--at least, there is no mention of any work habit in the book. In Africa they wore a " tropical" habit, which Sr. LUke described as being of cotton. Whether the headgear was in any way modified, or whether they continued wearing the choir cape--which must have been terribly hot. It must also have been dreadfully difficult to drink one's coffee or eat a bowl of soup with that guimpe!

A friend of mine entered a Poor Clare Colettine community, and they have something that reminds me a little of a baby's bib as part of their habit. (This picture gives you some idea, although it's not exactly the same.) As soon as I saw that I knew that I could never enter such a community. My dinner would be all over it in about three seconds.

I was so pleased to discover my community ate with a massive great napkin, one edge pinned under your chin and the other tucked under your plate - it was the only way I kept my habit clean!

My future community does this! It takes some getting used to, but I was relieved that I wouldn't be embarrassed by spilling anything. I am a bit of a klutz.
