Thank you Sister! I thought exclaustrated was the right word whenever a nun is 'let out' of the enclosure. :hehe: I am glad I did not go into the cloister thinking that! Would've gotten some weird looks from the nuns when they went to the dentist and I called THAT being 'exclaustrated'!!

You should read Verbi Sponsa - Instruction on the Contemplative Life and on the Enclosure of Nuns. I had the chance to read it at St. Cecilia's and it's very interesting as well as very beautiful.

Thank you EmilyAnn! I have heard of that document a lot on VS, but always thought it was kind of off-limits to lay people and more just a set of regulations for Superior Generals or Canon Lawyers to read. I read a little bit and it is very substantive and surprisingly easy to read. Thanks for the suggestion!

Here some cistercian nuns with a traditional habit! They kept all the divine office in Latin, their mass in in French though.

An old picture showing you their religious habit is still the same:

They pray the 11th century divine liturgy of the Cistercians.

Beautiful photos!
I wonder if they actually use that magnificent altar (with all that decoration in front of it)?!

Mother Mistress left it in my cell for me to read. I agree it is surprisingly easy to read, I enjoyed reading it a lot. It really helped me understand more the beauty of the enclosure!

I actually can't recall. All I remember is that the priest is facing the congregation. So they might add an extra altar. I also remember that the responsory psalm is sung in latin by a nun who goes by after having read the first reading. They're jolly good nuns!

More of the Sisters of the Cross in Sevilla(Spain)

Novices, they always have many vocations

Postulants, hard to find, the postulants did not leave during this stage of formation, and by their habit, are often confused with novices.

Gosh, amazing pics, thanks! The Polish Sisters are quite Amish looking...............plain dress and the caps.
Quite a practical habit and yes, very Amish! I wonder if they cut their hair or just tie it up (obv they must cut it some time, I mean at the clothing ceremony)

1932, same habit

As the Sisters of the Cross, 1930

Few apostolics congregations, founded before the Vatican II Council, use the same habit since being founded, in Spain only two, Sisters of the Cross and the Little Sisters of Elderly :
