Most certainly he needs prayer, because his act of desecration is a mortal sin.

That said, I pray that he repents of his evil action, and that he embraces Christ as his Lord and Savior.
We should be outraged. We should turn to prayer and fasting. We should write letters. We should let out lamenting and wailing. Yes. But as Jesus told Peter to put aside his sword when the soldiers came for Him in the garden, so too should we put away our swords-- which includes all threats and acts of violence.
Don't forget that Jesus whipped the moneychangers in the temple for being sinful. The Eucharist must be defended with force if need be.

ETA: If anyone is also interested in a novena to St. Monica instead/in addition, here it is (I  St. Monica):
Exemplary Mother of the Great Augustine,
You perserveringly pursued your wayward son
Not with wild threats
But with prayerful cries to heaven.

Intercede for all mothers in our day
So that they may learn
To draw their children to God.

Teach them how to remain
Close to their children,
Even the prodigal sons and daughters
Who have sadly gone astray.

Dear St Monica, troubled wife and mother,
Many sorrows pierced your heart
During your lifetime.
Yet you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence and profound faith,
You prayed daily for the conversion
Of your beloved husband, Patricius
And your beloved son, Augustine.

Grant me that same fortitude,
Patience and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
That God may favorably hear my plea
For

(mention your petition here)

And grant me the grace
To accept his will in all things,
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever. Amen.
WOW!

I never knew about this prayer - thanks for posting.

I love St.Augustine, and I love St. monica too!

I remember in 'Confessions' how Augustine asked anyone reading the book to pray for his mother's soul. I prayed a rosary for her soul soon after reading, as a thanks to her and Saint Augustine for his defense of Truth and the Church which I inherited thanks to countless eforts of saints just like them.

I haven't been keeping up with the news in the past few days. I just read about the PZ Myers Eucharist desecration. I am very upset about this, of course. My course of action will be to pray for his conversion.

Since the Chancellor of the University of Minnesota, Morris, Jacqueline Johnson, is not planning any action against this Myers, here is the link to the email addresses of all the members of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents. Perhaps they would like to hear from us.

However, I prefer the prayers. :bigpray:
I still have no idea what his point was. What did he think was going to happen? By committing a hate crime against Christians did he think that Christians would suddenly go “oh, you are right, we should become godless liberals too”?
That's just what I have been thinking the entire time. I haven't talked to him recently, but I am sure that my good friend, who is himself an atheist, would say the same thing.

I really haven't been following this story because, for the news junkie in me, I think the childishness and small mindedness of the whole thing makes this all rather silly. As a Catholic, I just pray for him. He did nothing more than sacrilege.

He should thank God (or something) that Catholics aren't known to riot in the streets and threaten to kill people.

Glad to help. :) I found it a month or so ago when I was doing a novena to St Monica. She amazes me with her prayerful persistence.

DevotedtoHim

This is the most horrifying story I have read. Please....we can only pray together for this anti-Catholic bias that is alive and thirving in our world to stop.

Kind of following the London Oratory's example, some friends and I are going to Adoration and Mass today in reparation for this abuse of the Holy Eucharist
