OnlySunshine Posted August 13, 2012 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Some of you might remember that the Carmelite Monastery in Mobile, AL was on the verge of being closed forever because the 4 remaining nuns were elderly and infirm. Fortunately, after they left for a retirement community, 8 Carmelite nuns from Vietnam petitioned to re-open the monastery and moved there in February 2011. I noticed that the Sisters who used to be there, [url="http://photos.al.com/alcom_photo_essay/2011/01/carmelite_nuns_leave_cloister.html"]http://photos.al.com...e_cloister.html[/url] who originally moved to a convent of the Sisters of Mercy, have now united as one community with the new Vietnamese nuns (scroll down on the homepage of their site to see) Of course as the 1990 police woman here I wish they could remain under those Constitutions .. and I like their old habit better. But I am happy for them to be home again now and have many more Sisters to share the love of Christ with! As for the habit question, in a way I am glad the original sisters did not insist on the other habit, as I think it makes an important point about what is most essential here...l just my opinion, of course. Also i met a guy at catechsis with the neo catechumins whose sister is returning from the u.s.a and she is a carmelite(unsure which order) and is starting a new monastary in my city. I hope she can get a priest to join cause there are no carmelite priests in my city and therefore no one can be enroled into the 3rd order locally. One actually has to join a secular carmelite community and undergo formation with them. One also has to fulfill Mass and Divine Office obligations as much as they are able.
