Not A Mallard Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 A reality show that I might consider watching? What has the world come to??!!?!?!?! A good place, I guess.
Swami Mommy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Oooh, this looks wonderful! I already wrote down the info so I can record the series. Thanks for letting us know about it!
Carla Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 It seams interesting but i hope so that they will stay focused on their discerning and their vocation. It will be hard to focus their self with all this cameras and attention. I wish them all well on their vocation.
puellapaschalis Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Given how most if not all reality shows are far from reality and are in fact scripted to a large extent, I wonder how this can serve any useful purpose. It will probably lack authenticity, and without authenticity it's just ratings fodder.
freedomreigns Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Also, I think vocational discernment is not the sort of thing that should be "lived out loud." God speaks in the silence of our hearts and it is best to reduce rather than to add distractions. I hope each of them have a spiritual director who will be able to guide them.
veritasluxmea Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I agree with the concerns voiced already, but I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt for the moment. Hope it goes well and helps other discerners!
Chiquitunga Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 from reading different articles about it, it seems like it might be okay, https://www.osv.com/OSVNewsweekly/ByIssue/Article/TabId/735/ArtMID/13636/ArticleID/16398/%E2%80%98Sisterhood%E2%80%99-lets-viewers-go-behind-convent-doors.aspx but, after watching the preview.... http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/the-sisterhood-becoming-nuns my goodness!
Kateri89 Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Hey you guys might catch a glimpse of my face if you watch the show :) I was on a retreat with one of the women that's on this show. Just a couple months ago I was visiting the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth and the film crew was there so at most you might see me entering the chapel with the rest of the young women and that's about it lol.

Kateri89 Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) Oh wow, they filmed at the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth as well? Yeah but after I looked at the website I'm a little confused. The young woman that I met that was supposed to be on the show was named Angela and none of those women are her lol. Plus she told me it would be on TLC not lifetime, unless this is a different show but I'll be surprised if there are two reality shows about this... Edited November 13, 2014 by Kateri89
Sr Mary Catharine OP Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 The producers were in conversation with us for about 2 months. They originally asked to do a 5 minute thing but as we continued to be in correspondence it was clear that they had a storyboard for us to fit into and we said NO THANKS! They were not happy. We've said no many times to different production companies to be part of something like this. It doesn't look very hopeful to me.
Gabriela Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Leonie's Longing was also contacted by Cracked magazine for an interview. After several back-and-forths, it was clear they weren't interested in showing the reality of women who have returned to the world. We said no. I think that interest in nuns right now hints at a deep longing in people's hearts for a more meaningful life. There seems to be a public fascination with them that isn't just the "sexy naughty virgin nun" thing it once was. I think media producers are picking up on this, but they don't know how to make the kind of show that would help people to find meaning through the example of sisters, so instead they produce junk like this. I watched the preview. It looks like drama, Drama, DRAMA! Not going to watch it.
Kayte Postle Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I'm a bit weary about this as well, especially since the trailer has come out. First of all they keep using the term "novice" incorrectly. Second it seems as though the young women that are a part of the show aren't fully aware of the requirements of the convent before entering (no make-up, cells phones, etc.). This looks like something more along the lines of "The Convent" show, where various women lived in the convent for several weeks. I'm rather upset at the way they are describing the show, it's extremely misleading. (small side note: what pre-postulants wear pencil skirts? Seriously?)
Tradosaurus Rex Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 I'm skeptical that the main stream media will be able to treat the subject of religious life with respect and dignity. In short I hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Prayers that God will bring some good out of this.
Feankie Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Ooh, ooh ooh.........the trailer was SOOOOO bad. Locking the girls in their rooms at night? Pencil skirts? And I could go on and on. Don't think I'm going to be watching. And IMHO, I don't think it's good for the Sisters either. But....stranger things have happened :nun3:
Cherie Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Yeah but after I looked at the website I'm a little confused. The young woman that I met that was supposed to be on the show was named Angela and none of those women are her lol. Plus she told me it would be on TLC not lifetime, unless this is a different show but I'll be surprised if there are two reality shows about this... I would not at all be surprised if TLC had their own version coming up. There are many different shows that feature the Amish on different cable networks. People have a curious fascination with them, just as they do with Sisters. The networks love doing copycat shows, if those shows have good ratings. Funny, I talked to Cracked as well about writing a piece for them. Didn't go forward with it, but I'll admit, it was tempting. The piece would have been very difficult to express for them in a manner that would still be respectful of religious life in general, though. That was important to me.
AveMariaPurissima Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 A friend and I have been discussing this show, and we both feel a bit wary of it, especially after watching the trailer. But I am interested to see the actual show once it starts.
