What do you have in the way of Evangelical material? I skimmed the reference section, but I did not see a specific topic devoted to Evangelicals. I met an Evangelical minister in the hospital and I am trying to get a grasp on his basic beliefs...do you have anything that can point me in that general direction?

Thanks

God Bless

from what i know of evangelicals, there not much different from fundamentalists, in which case my section on "fundamentalism" in the Non-Catholic: Christian entry may be of some help.

if you can get a hold of karl keeting's book "catholicism and fundamentalism" i believe he attempts to make a distinction between the two. if i can find the book--i know its around here somewhere--i will try to reproduce for you the pertinent information.

in the meantime, i think i will see if anyone has elucidated the difference online somewhere. if i find anything i'll definitely let you know

In my experience conservative baptists call themselves fundamentalists and conservative presbyterians call themselves evangelicals.

Jake Huether

My wife's cousin converted from Catholicism to Evangelical-ism. We met twice to discuss why. Man are they a little "off track" to put it lightly. And so after having no success at dialogue twice, we shook the dust off our feet. He was sincerely convinced that Catholics worship statues, even though I, a Catholic, told him we don't. I suppose he wasn't too solid in his Catholic faith in the first place. But it seems that their congregation, aside from a few Scripture sessions, simply bashes the Catholic faith. Also noteworth was the fact that they don't even use the word "Trinity" to describe God. They are taught not to because it makes God sound like three gods. But then their theology is a messed up because they don't really understand the fundamental nature of God (three Persons, One Being). They think Jesus was like a glass, and God is like water. So that when Jesus was on earth, God the Father was in Him.

I will pray for you Theo. God bless you.

Thank you all. I was prepared for him a bit, he was trying to convert me. It was rather entertaining to watch. I respectfully listened, took his card, tracts, and told him we will keep in touch.

Thank you all.

When I get time I will certainly read those links that were provided

God Bless
if you need any help refuting the tracts that he handed you, just let me know ;)
I saw him today. I gave him "Pillar of Fire Pillar of Truth." He happily received it and told me he would read it today. He also said he was always happy to read what Catholics believe. That is where it was left ;)

Thank You

God Bless
