Recommended Posts

This is by Phatmasser Anna. It's naturally Poetic:

God is Lover of my soul.

He is always there for me. He is the one I always turn to in distress.

He paints my sunrises, and sunsets.

He has blessed me abundantly with children.

I feel His Love with me always.

Even when I miserably fail Him, He never fails me.

He knows my needs before I even ask.

In the silence of my heart, I feel His Presence.

His faithfulness to me far surpasses any faithfulness I can claim to Him.

Why He loves me, I cannot understand.

And I will never be able to appreciate it enough.

When I do fail Him, or when I am confused about which way to go, He has given me many friends--a cloud of witnesses--who pray for me, and whose life examples show great and courageous acts of Faith, and how God has rewarded them in the end.

I am an unworthy member of His family. I know His Mother. She praises Him with me.

He has provided all good things for me...He feeds my soul with His own Body.

The power of his annointing is so strong when I receive absolution in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The strongest human emotions I feel toward God, in my relationship with Him, are adoration, gratitude, and trust.

Mist

Not quite rain and not quite snow.

Something different. Something special. Something more.

Something in-between.

I wrap it around my shoulders and know.

I am not alone.

I am not the only one

in between.

penned by Sarah in 7th grade (4 yrs ago) but still by favorite poem! I think it relates to a lot of people.

A Hymn: O God of Earth and Altar

O God of earth and altar,

Bow down and hear our cry,

Our earthly rulers falter,

Our people drift and die;

The walls of gold entomb us,

The swords of scorn divide,

Take not thy thunder from us,

But take away our pride.

From all that terror teaches,

From lies of tongue and pen,

From all the easy speeches

That comfort cruel men,

From sale and profanation

Of honour and the sword,

From sleep and from damnation,

Deliver us, good Lord.

Tie in a living tether

The prince and priest and thrall,

Bind all our lives together,

Smite us and save us all;

In ire and exultation

Aflame with faith, and free,

Lift up a living nation,

A single sword to thee.

Poem by G.K. Chesterton about Notre Dame. He visited there in the 30s and was at a football game or two.

The Arena

Causa Nostrae Laetitiae

(Dedicated to the University of Notre Dame, Indiana)

There uprose a golden giant

On the gilded house of Nero

Even his far-flung flaming shadow and his image swollen large

Looking down on the dry whirlpool

Of the round Arena spinning

As a chariot-wheel goes spinning; and the chariots at the charge.

And the molten monstrous visage

Saw the pageants, saw the torments,

Down the golden dust undazzled saw the gladiators go,

Heard the cry in the closed desert

Te salutant morituri,

As the slaves of doom went stumbling, shuddering, to the shades below.

“Lord of Life, of lyres and laughter,

Those about to die salute thee,

At thy godlike fancy feeding men with bread and beasts with men,

But for us the Fates point deathward

In a thousand thumbs thrust downward,

And the Dog of Hell is roaring through the lions in their den.”

I have seen, where a strange country

Opened its secret plains about me,

One great golden dome stand lonely with its golden image, one

Seen afar, in strange fulfillment,

Through the sunlit Indian summer

That Apocalyptic portent that has clothed her with the Sun.

She too looks on the Arena

Sees the gladiators grapple,

She whose names are Seven Sorrows and the Cause of All Our Joy,

Sees the pit that stank with slaughter

Scoured to make the courts of morning

For the cheers of jesting kindred and the scampering of a boy.

“Queen of Death and deadly weeping

Those about to live salute thee,

Youth untroubled; youth untutored; hateless war and harmless mirth

And the New Lord's larger largesse

Holier bread and happier circus,

Since the Queen of Sevenfold Sorrow has brought joy upon the earth.”

Burns above the broad arena

Where the whirling centuries circle,

Burns the Sun-clothed on the summit, golden-sheeted, golden shod,

Like a sun-burst on the mountains,

Like the flames upon the forest

Of the sunbeams of the sword-blades of the Gladiators of God.

And I saw them shock the whirlwind

Of the World of dust and dazzle:

And thrice they stamped, a thunderclap; and thrice the sand-wheel swirled;

And thrice they cried like thunder

On Our Lady of the Victories,

The Mother of the Master of the Masterers of the World.

“Queen of Death and Life undying

Those about to live salute thee;

Not the crawlers with the cattle; looking deathward with the swine,

But the shout upon the mountains

Of the men that live for ever

Who are free of all things living but a Child; and He was thine.”

--G.K. Chesterton (1930)

For work and to visit my friend I was in the car by myself for about 12 hours last Friday. During that time I thought up a lot of this poem.

I WANT TO WANT

I want to want to pray and adore.

I want to want to be holy and pure.

I want to be able to say,

I hunger for Christ both night and day.

To be moved to tears by the site of the Cross.

To lay down my life and not count the cost.

To fall on my face when you are lifted up.

To be broken like bread and poured from the cup.

Righteous rage and passion extreme,

to state the truth without being mean.

To be hot and cold, but never lukewarm.

To stay the course despite the storm.

To see Christ in the lowly and the poor,

to answer the knock that is at the door.

To crush the snake of my rock like heart.

To place my feet on Peter thou art.

To be open and joyful to the gift of life,

like Christ to the Church my I give to my wife.

I want what I want and I want it all.

Faith, Hope, and Charity

My God and my all.

bump from back here on page 5!

Everybody Get Together

(Chester Powers)

Love is but a song to sing

Feels the way we'll die

You can make the mountains ring

Or make the angels cry

Though the bird is on the wing

And you may know not why

Oh! Come on you people now

Smile on your brother

Everybody get together

Try to love one another right now

Come on you people now

Smile on your brother

Everybody get together

Try to love one another right now

Some may come and some may go

He will surely pass

When the one that let us heal

Returns for us at last

We are but in the morning sunlight

Fading in the grass

Oh! Come on you people now

Smile on your brother

Everybody get together

Try to love one another right now

Yes! Come on you people now

Smile on your brother

Everybody get together

Try to love one another right now

Come on you people now

Smile on your brother

Everybody get together

Try to love one another right now

Theologian in Training

bump we need some more poets . . .

"I was a poet and didn't know it, but all my toes are Longfellows"

I would post, but a lot of my poems have been published and I have a great attachment to those words. I am working on one right now that is based on the Nativity that I wrote a while back, going to try and get it published, but haven't taken it that far yet.

I think a while back I posted this poem, so I will just re-post it under this thread. Do keep in mind that this has been published and therefore copyrights do exist. I don't want to sound mean or rude, but I miss the writer I used to be, and the poems I have are glimmers of that poet I once was.

Angelic Shadows

Walking in the shadows of transparent realities

Struggling to live in the silence of the dream

Formed by the cloud that consumes me

I am always chasing the demons

And laughing at the angels

Because I am mad and they are real

Happy in bliss flying on silent wings

Of love and grace

But sometimes I think that the reality does not work

And that angels carry us beyond the sleeping fields

Of tranquility and resurrection

I feel as though the angels laugh at me

Because they dance in The Kingdom

And behold a glory greater than the grandest mortal

I believe that their eyes pierce mine

And see something that I knew was already there

They admit it

I don’t

Sometimes I find myself chasing the angels

But really I am only walking and looking for shadows

When they are only dreams

When I chase them the night sighs

Because the stars fall and the light from the moon fades

Beyond a red horizon

Sometimes I am not even walking

But lying down on the pillowy clouds

Until they dissolve revealing shallow streams and tranquil seas

That dream of a fiery horizon like an apocalypse shrouded in peace

Sometimes tears are too much and oceans overflow because love becomes relative

Before a silent heart that has continually searched and loved looking for happiness

But we don’t want the reality only the dream

Because the reality is to plastic and the dream too real

We want canaries singing sad songs and trees swaying in gentle winds

We want to watch leaves depart from the frail fingers and kiss warm lips in cold weather

This is the reality

And the dream is nothing more than a silent mist that fills the air

  • 3 weeks later...
Seatbelt Blue

"Treading Old Ground, I Turned"

My daylight digresses,

As the sun slips and falls,

Turning, as a wheel

(Covered by tires

Which scorch the road),

Only to rise again tomorrow,

And make the same trip

With a mime's accuracy;

Silent, inevitable,

And sad.

Am I such a sun,

Or a replying planet,

Or e'en a moon,

Which orbits within orbits,

Always following old paths?

Perhaps a train, which

Does naught but tread

The ground which it has already

So blackened with it's

Smokey smile.

We fly the routes our mothers lay,

And trample precious little ground

unbidden. But laughing,

I turned, not north,

As toward my birth; nor south,

As to keep the course;

Rather, I surgically set my map behind me,

And left the road entirely.

Without even the basest of companions,

I lay the road toward Babylon;

No river flood nor beating bear

Shall halt my harried

Energy.

Saving Grace

Doubt encircles

wraps

around me

capturing those fleeting

what-ifs

that steals the light

from life

I reach out for

Saving Grace

golden threads that float just out of reach

they flutter close brushing

against my fear

momentarily granting Hope

Sorry if this gets long, but I've got a bunch that I wanted to put up.

Veil so thin

Veil so thin

You cannot hide

The Light within

The Fire inside

I come to partake

And in Thee I see

The Thought that ne'er breaks

I join the memory

Ages past

And future dim

Free at last

Together in Him

Through time, through ages

Earth sings a song

Life leaps from the pages

Heaven joins along

I join the communion

And am freed of my sins

Perfected in Union

By a veil so thin.

In Articulo Mortis

To a life so dark

I dare not hold

I run towards the light

I run from the cold

To dies is to gain

What in life I could not

My soul longs to dance

And leave body to rot

Grant me, O God

When my heart takes its bow

The promise through Peter

That I fulfill now.

Mother of God

In that hour of mine

Stretch out your hand

And bring me to Thine.

Patrons to whom

My life was entrust

Forget me not

As I slip 'way to dust.

God Most High

Grant me this

Look down with love

In Articulo Mortis.

In Articulo Mortis means "The Moment of Death." The "promise through Peter/that I fulfill now" refers to an indulgence in the Enchiridion of Indulgences (1968) titled In Articulo Mortis that grants a plenary indulgence at the moment of death to those who "have been in the habit of reciting some prayers during their lifetime." Peter is used as a referance to the Pope, and thus the Church and its teachings.

Canonization

All ye saints whom age forgot

Whose lives doest Rome remember not

No named feasts have you got

But that day that covers all

Though I know not what to call thee

My blessed patrons may you be

I pray to you, please pray for me

Oh Nameless hear my call

Monstrance

May I rhyme

With tears in my eyes?

Behold the Man;

Behold the Lamb!

Terror of Fear.

Mortality of Death.

I try to draw my breath

And I gloriously fail.

In Your Presence

the silence

broken by worship

of angels

Oh Glorious Gift

The memory and eternity

fused in a moment.

Once passed over

Once not spared

The gold

as but base lead

holds the Bread of Life

Holds the Body of Christ.

And I am priviledged

exalted

humbled

to behold.

Ave

David's Daughter, Mystic Rose

Morning Star, Theotokos

Holy Virgin, Ever Blessed

On Thy heart place my request

Maria! Mother of My Life

Handmaiden and Spirit's Wife

Implore, O deeply favored one

Before Thy Great and Holy Son

For all who walk the earth this day

And for this reason which I pray

Take my prayer from Thy Heart

And upon Thy Son impart

The prayer which rests within They breast

That which I do now request

Give Thy Son a kiss for me

This is what I ask of Thee

Hear my cry to Thee today

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei

Theotokos is Greek for "God-bearer" or "Mother of God". It is a title stemming from the Council of Ephesus in 431, and is still used, esp. among Eastern Orthodox Christians. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei is Latin for "Holy Mary, Mother of God" and comes from the Hail Mary. Ave is Latin for "Hail" and is the first word of the Hail Mary.

Sacred Heart of Love on Fire

Sacred Heart of Love on Fire

Make Thy will my one desire

Holy Love made Flesh and Bone

Make me long for Thee alone

Heart of Jesus, Victim of sin

May I thirst for Thee again

Take my mind; Heal my will

My heart is sick; My Soul is ill

Great Physician, make me well

Sacré Cœur, Emmanuel

Draw me near, O Sacred Heart

And, as I can bear, impart

The lessons of Thy Blessed Ways

More and more for all my days

This poem and Ave were written one right after the other, thus the similarity in rhythm. It is an extension of my devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sacré Cœur is French for Sacred Heart. The closing four lines echo the end of a common Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart (a copy of which can be found here).
