Hi! I received 'the list' of things which I am able/need to bring to the monastery and have slowly been acquiring them. It's a small list, but some of the things are hard to find - particularly black slips. I was getting ready to make my own, when I found a website with the PERFECT slips. I ordered two and they are really just right. They are a little short (just to the calf), but the owner will make them in a custom length for five dollars more. The slips were only $20 each, which was a great deal. Just a suggestion for anyone whose trying to find such things before they enter or just looking for modest underclothes - www.stitchintimes.com

Have fun!

Congratulations on your upcoming entrance! Which community are you entering, if I may ask?

I believe she once posted the Benedictine Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in Westfield, VT. This is the website she gave http://www.ihmwestfield.com/. If i'm mistaken, she will correct me. I believe this is it though. :)

I knew someone who found great consolation from these nuns upon the death of one of his children, even though he is not a believer. They sound great.

Yes, that's correct, the Benedictine Monastery of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And I might be a little biased, but I agree - they are the 'coolest' ! Ha! Especially in VERMONT!!!! :lol_roll:

I once attended a Solmen Profession there. What a great group of women. Their extern sisters were amazingly kind and hospitable. I had the particular good fortune of being invited to a special recreation (because of the profession) with the nuns. What a great half hour that was!!!

Once very "lucky" moment was when I stepped out of my guest room into the corridor only to find (God forgive me I can't remember his name) the Abbott of the Congregation of Solesmes walking there. I quickly shot back into my room and picked up the things I purchased in the gift shop - Father Abbott was kind enough to bless them for me and I was able to distribute them to friends.

All around, though it was snowy and FREEZING...it was a marvelous visit with very lovely community.

Because if you do I may just squiee.
If Dom Philippe was Abbot of Solesmes in 2002-03 (I can't remember the exact date I was there) then yes, that's who I mean. I wouldn't have known who he was except the nuns had told me during recreation that he was coming for the profession.

What a beautiful blessing he gave. I handed him my items and started to kneel but he quickly took hold of my hand and gently raised me back up, put the items back in my hand, covered them with his hand over mine and then gave the prayer and blessing. We exchanged no words with each other and when he was through with the blessing we gave each other a "Benedictine bow" and went on with our business. It was very special moment.

Is there a photo of him anywhere that you know of? I forgot the name, I'll never forget his face.

Hurray :D

I've never met him, but I've seen him during the liturgies at Solesmes. Oh, and he's on a dvd I have about chant and the role it plays in the life of the monastery :topsy:

Sure, come right on in....we Bennies are quite hospitable you know. :lol_roll:

You're a brave woman...I don't think I'd put the words "filthy" and "Domincan" in the same sentence....especially not here on PM. :saint:
