who was the greatest diciple? why and why not the others?
if there isn't a greatest one, why isn't there a greatest one? (other than perhaps being told that there is no greatest one

why do you suspect Jesus told the disciples not to argue over who was the greatest disciple?
because there was no greatest, or because they just shouldn't argue over it, or?

I don't know if the original poster wanted this for an answer:
"He that is the greatest among you shall be your servant." (Matthew 23:11)

The Theotokos would definitely be Christ's greatest disciple, though.

[quote]Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

I was thinking of Mary, the daughter of Joachim and Anne.

Arguing about who was the greatest would be putting power or vanity before God's purpose and is contrary to Gods position of all men/women are equal in his love which overshadows all else.
