zunshynn
I'm interested in your guy's thoughts about this clothing website called SuddenlyDarling.com I found it on the Empowered Traditionalist blog awhile back... personally I love most of it. Some of her skirts were a little on the short side, I thought, but it didn't seem outrageous or scandalous by any means. This outfit was the one she posted about: Granted you'd have to like the style and it's not my favorite of hers, but I did like it, more or less, and thought it was modest. I was reading the comments on ET's blogpost and quite a few people really did not like it and said that this outfit, like most of her others, were totally immodest. One of the main complaints were her jeans being too tight? One lady said it was so immodest she might as well not wear any jeans at all. But, I mean, she has a long shirt on, so I didn't really see the problem. They also thought the sweater drew too much attention to the chest... which, I can't really see why. My first thought was that they were crazy... But then I was kind of unsure... Maybe my idea of modesty isn't high enough, actually? Anyway, so I'm interested in your thoughts. Guys, too! cmotherofpirl
I did that one time sitting on the edge of the tub. I didn't know however, that there had been a water leak somewhere else and the tap water was no longer chlorinated. Within an hour my leg started to swell, then streaks started up and down my leg. After several hours I couldn't breathe and a neighbor found me staggering down the alley looking for help. I ended up in ICU in heart failure because the infection triggered asthma and then my lungs started to take on water and I couldn't breathe.
The pants actually look a bit baggy. jiyoung
This website was advertised at all the youth conferences, at least on the FUS campus, this year--I know this because I worked on video crew so I was occasionally responsible for running the video on it. I don't know--it's a very particular style, and while it's a nice idea, a lot of people have very different ideas about what is modest and what is not. I know people who think that pants on women are immodest, period. So what is on this website won't really suit everyone's tastes. For one: I typically don't like skirts that are even above the knee; they make me feel exposed and weird. (So I can't even understand those women who wear those belts with ruffles that our society likes to call skirts.) This site has skirts that are just above the knee...I don't necessarily think it's immodest, it's just not really my style. I think it's a good resource for showing women that you can look cute without baring so much skin, and that modesty doesn't have to mean frumpy.
Going . . . mad . . . with . . . lust! Soul . . . blackening. Must . . . run from temptation! With the sweater, those jeans are fine. Probably even without the sweater. People in general need to learn that modesty is 90% immaterial, 10% material. It's not mostly what you wear, it's mostly who you are. I am honestly repelled when women dress immodestly, because it often accurately reveals how they view themselves and other people. Most Catholic gents probably think along the same lines. As it is, many women are completely oblivious to the fact that A) what they are wearing may be immodest and B) immodesty is a bad thing. Or just oblivious, period: C) "So, like, what's 'chastity,' and stuff?" This is not to say that women are morally fine to wear whatever they like, wherever they like. You'll get treated like how you act, 90% of the time. Despite that fact, when it comes to modesty, 10% of how you act is what you put on. ~Sternhauser Edited October 30, 2009 by Sternhauser
rhetoricfemme
I don't find the clothes immodest at all. They're pretty and decent. Some of it remind me of a French country home, or Mistlethwaite Manor.
Marie-Therese
As a girl, I think the outfit is totally cute. I tend to be drawn toward that European style anyway. I understand that some people view clothing that reveals any curve of the body as being immodest, but short of the pants being skin tight (which they don't appear to be) or the sweater being made of spandex, I find no problem with this. Being modest doesn't have to mean dressing yourself in a gunny sack. I will have to check out that website!!

tinytherese
I think that the problem is that there are no agreed upon standards as to what modesty actually looks like. I remember a thread that was up months ago where it asked if bare shoulders were immodest. The majority of people said that it was. Before I hadn't thought that it was, but apparentally a lot of men find it alluring.
Totus Tuus
By the way, thought I haven't seen them, I think it's ridiculous to believe that clothing that shows a woman's form is by default immodest. I don't think walking around in a potato sack is necessary to preserve our dignity. In fact, doing so probably doesn't show as much dignity to the female form as wearing something more tailored to our bodies. I am not suggesting skin-tight clothing, so please don't put words into my mouth that I am not actually saying when you read this post (as so often happens in conversations about modesty). Funny story about that - I have some friends who urged everyone to go to spring formal last year dressed modestly, not showing the shoulders or back, and they all showed up in strapless dresses. I think it's a hard line when it comes to shoulders, and my anecdote is to stress that point- it's just hard to know what is and isn't modest in some situations. My personal opinion is that it's pointless to wear strapless clothing; it's inconvenient and tends to be accident-prone (i.e., especially for more top-heavy people). tinytherese
I remember how I avoided showing my shoulders by tying a shawl or scarf around me. Also, dresses can be tailored so as to add sleeves to the area.

KnightofChrist
As a man, I think it is possible that it isn't. It does show off the thighs... Almost looks as if she's wearing tights with a very short sweater dress... Just saying... Edited October 30, 2009 by KnightofChrist
