As a man, I think it is possible that it isn't. It does show off the thighs... Almost looks as if she's wearing tights with a very short sweater dress... Just saying...

Oh, I agree. She should definitely be in some nice, baggy sweatpants that do nothing at all for her figure. Besides, if she wants to wear a sweater, it better be a nice over-sized hoodie.

I like Link :)

I think that you can find some good stuff on (for instance) ModCloth, but it's not cheap and the stock is constantly changing so it's hard to recommend particular outfits to others. I'm not sure how useful this website it, but it's a good idea, in theory. I think that modesty should be a deciding factor in building a wardrobe, but only insomuch as you want your clothing to reflect your human dignity.

I wear boots because I like them and they are comfortable to stand in and warm in the winter.

Some people find boots sexy.

If someone is going to raise eyebrows at me because I wear black leather boots as part of a decent outfit, I'm likely going to brush it off. If, however, the boots are just one component of an entire outfit that screams 'come hither' to people, then I shouldn't be wearing it.

Paying attention to how short or long something is, how tight, how much skin is all important, but the overall effect (in the end) is what matters.

Personal taste goes into fashion, too - it's not judged by a 'modesty panel'. Though, even if you listen to the judges on Project Runway (which does not emphasize modesty as a goal of fashion!), you will find them complaining about immodest outfits on the runway because they are so unflattering on the woman. They appreciate the body and think fashion should showcase it well...with taste. So, even a secular taste recognizes the fashion sense of modest dress.

Not that I'm saying their guidelines should be followed for Christian women!

In short, I understand why the outfit above is considered 'modest enough' and what it is aiming at. It is a particular style, though, so of course it's not for everyone (nor all body types). I think people with skinny legs can get away with wearing tighter pants than I can...and that some people will just criticize everything.....

I would love to check it out, but my school has a stupid fiddler that blocks out everything, even not-bad stuff. haha. I guess maybe that's your answer as to whether it's modest or not! jk!

I know!

That is one that I have always considered inappropriate unless it is a bathing suit. Funny story about that - I have some friends who urged everyone to go to spring formal last year dressed modestly, not showing the shoulders or back, and they all showed up in strapless dresses. I think it's a hard line when it comes to shoulders, and my anecdote is to stress that point- it's just hard to know what is and isn't modest in some situations. My personal opinion is that it's pointless to wear strapless clothing; it's inconvenient and tends to be accident-prone (i.e., especially for more top-heavy people).

Yeah.. I thought that was really weird...

And just to stress, I am not bringing that up in condemnation of the act, but genuine curiosity: is bare shoulders modest in some situations or not??

well... I think that thread reach 40something pages. Many girls were creeped out and the conclusion we reached was that we all should always wear refridgerator boxes.

It seems modest to me.

I had to do a double take when reading this.

I really love the top and sweater... I think the entire outfit is cute, however I'm not sure if it is modest or not... I guess it depends on the jean. It is so easy for that jean when acted on to be very tight. I've seen it so much, however that one looks comfortable.

this may be of interest to you http://www.therebelution.com/modestysurvey/

Over 700 Christian (conservative, for the most part) men who actually have a concept of modesty and its importance for both women and men said that jeans are not generally immodest.

The same number said skin-tight jeans are a stumbling block. We ladies just have to be aware of the jeans we are wearing... I think it just depends on the jeans the lady is going to use with that look. It is so easy to wear the wrong jeans... too tight... low riders... its easy... especially with that look.

Better yet she should be wearing a burka over some nice, baggy sweatpants. And I am sorry that I've seemed to offend you. I was only giving my opinion, and I gave my opinion as a man. A lot of the things women wear to 'show off their figure' can and does cause men to lust.

i think the point she was trying to make is, if this is immodest then frankly nothing a women could wear could be considered modest short of wearing clothes 4 sizes to big. these clothes are modest. anyone who says they are not is either reaching to try and make their point or think that no matter what a women wears is immodest. to say this is immodest is going overboard.

I dont think it's going overboard. When I first saw the image I saw a woman wearing tights and a very short dress with very high boots. Which looked immodest to me. I did not like to be mocked by simply offering that opinion, but hey whatever.

i don't think it was mocking but more of a "no matter what women wear someone will make some immodest comment" kind of thing.

how is wearing high boots and a shirt (not dress) with pants on immodest? what would be considered modest apparel for a women to wear?

I'm just telling you what I saw when I looked at the picture, I'm not going to debate about it. And it was mockery, plain and simple, and I'm not going to debate about that either.
