Oh, what a surprise!
Until now I've been sure that Lil Red was a man!!!!!!!!!

Anyway...my personal opinion: no, it isn't fair to ask a man to do the houskeeping. A man is always a man.
It isn't his task, in my opinion of course, I repeat!

My fiancee sometimes acts like my mom :D I love it.

My mom's sociology major, and my fiancee is social work... my fiancee is like a cuter, unrelated, attractive version of my mom... that is way cooler too of course... and plain awesome... and actually aside from social work and some other traits... is nothing like my mom...

dating your mom would be gross. No offense mom. :saint:

Oh, I don't want to seem that kind of woman who vitiates men.
But, actually, I can't stand those women who dream a man who behaves like a woman.
Staying with the children, doing houskeeping, washing, cleaning...
If the man likes this, nothing wrong.
But... what about women?
What about a woman who repairs windows, washing machines, televisions?
A woman who can assemble furnitures, hang pictures, or replace car pieces...?
If a man should do housekeeping, a woman should do this kind of works too!

well, there are reasons men stay at home. like if he's out of a job. and can't find a new job.

btw, i've never said that i like this situation. believe me, i would much rather be at home (and not at my present job) with my kids, and my husband working. but i'm not and he's not. we're trying to deal.

i had to look this up.

1 : to make faulty or defective : impair <the comic impact is vitiated by obvious haste — William Styron>
2 : to debase in moral or aesthetic status <a mind vitiated by prejudice>
3 : to make ineffective <fraud vitiates a contract>

If a man stays with his children, he is behaving like a woman? Are husbands not supposed to love and care for their children? Does each spouse not have equal responsibility when it comes to raising the children? Every woman should dream for a husband who does those things.

Of course a woman should be capable of those hands-on activities! Just as a man should be capable of cooking. What if the man is single? What if the woman is single? Then the man has to cook and clean and the woman has to assemble furniture. Society has created these strict gender roles (men do the repairs, women do the cleaning). I say we do away with these gender roles. Performing a task properly has to do with your skill, not your gender!!

I can and do routinely. One of the first lessons my husband learned was to stay away from my power tools.

"Society" has "created" gender roles since the beginning of time, why now in the 21st century ought we get rid of them?

If it is at the root of every ancient culture then maybe it is meant to be?

EDIT: Not to say they should be strict and forbid men to do this and forbid women to do that... but generally speaking... there are gender roles. Men and women are equal not the same, if they aren't the same it means they do different things... genders doing different things = gender roles. It is the woman's gender role to nurse a child... I've never seen a man nurse before and I hope I never do.

I AGREE!!! Not only should we keep the roles but we should revert back to the old days, before this "men and women are equal" nonsense polluted society! We should take the right to vote away from women, and oh we should also kick them out of the military. In fact, get them out of the entire workforce. Women should not go to college, either. They should marry right after high school (and only go to high school to meet a proper husband) and spend their lives making babies, cooking, and cleaning.

Oh stop being so ridiculous. Everyone knows that men and women are equal but different (except you, who apparently wants us to revert to the days when women were not permitted to speak until their husbands allowed them). My earlier post was about stereotypical gender roles - the women clean and the husbands get their hands dirty. My entire point was that gender has nothing to do with this, but talent and skill.

My husband an I have the gender roles just fine thank you. I just happen to be better with my hands, and grew up around boys and mechanics where my husband grew up around girls, and a father who taught medieval English and spent all his time in the library.

Exactly. The point is that these tasks should not be assigned by gender.

lol I do all of these. Never repaired a washing machine, but I have repaired a dryer. I can also hang and float dry wall, lay carpeting, replace insulation in a house, and other things.
