Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

We met with our oncologist yesterday and got the following news:

My husband (his name is Paul) has Stage II Hodgkins lymphoma. The oncologist said the areas in his chest that lit up were likely due to another cause than lymphoma, and his bone marrow biopsy came back clean. This news was a big relief to us, since we initially had thought the cancer was much more advanced.

He also has a cancerous tumor on his thyroid, which we likely would not have found for quite some time had we not done the scan looking for affected lymph nodes, since he had no symptoms and thyroid cancer grows very slowly.

He'll be starting treatment (chemo) a week from tomorrow; it will last at least 6 months, and then he'll have surgery for the thyroid cancer. Both cancers have a very high 5-year-survival rate, above 75 percent, especially since both are in early stages.

We're in relatively good spirits, partly because we've gone from thinking worst case to a much better position. We know the next few months are going to be tough, but we trust God will give us the grace to persevere. My husband is keeping a good sense of humor. After learning he'll lose most of his hair a week or two after starting chemo, he started making plans for getting a tough-guy wig to wear to his brother's wedding later this month. He's in the market for an orange mohawk. :))

So glad to hear it isn't as advanced as originally thought. Oh, and he could wear thisto the wedding.

Continuing to pray. :)

Terra, you and your husband and little one have been added to our family prayers each night indefinately. I'm so glad that things are looking up for him. Thyroid cancer seems to be very popular lately. I've had one cousin and a great-aunt just recover from thyroid cancer, and one of my husband's family members also had thyroid cancer. It's a bit scary, but luckily it is curable.

Stage II isn't stage IV. We'll take what we can get. :)
