There was like 30 people there. I doubt they knew anything about Phatmass. But it does seem unlikely that a random stranger created a room called "Salve Regina." I'm not sure how they all got there.

If you don't click NO in the advanced options . . . the room will be publicly listed.
These could be robots that are spamming our tinychats.
No. They are very real. *shudders*
Why not get on AIM and then invite people?
That might work too :)
Has anyone ever clicked on the "advance options" button? I just did and it gives options like "List this room in public API" (Yes appears to be default) and "Require an ID to join the room" (although this option would make it so you have to sign of for facebook, twitter, etc., which I really have no interest in doing). You can also make is so that people cannot broadcast in the room unless the moderator allows them to.
That is a good idea also. But I know some here do not have twitter or facebook, so that could be a problem.)

Guys, I think any further talk about tinychat safety should be done through personal messaging. I definitely don't feel comfortable talking about it where the spammers are likely to see.

Oh, you mean they are invading that fake url that I posted?

Geez.
Well there you have it.

You know, maybe one spammer found our room by chance, had nothing to do with Phatmass, but figured out Phatmass when we asked if he/she was a member.

Why not get on AIM and then invite people? I mean if you want to petition Dust then that's fine. But then that will probably cost money and where is this going to come from? Isn't Dust already trying to pay for phatmass as it is with everything else?
Not to mention Dust already implemented a chat feature on this website once and it messed things up and made it vulnerable to hackers. I'd rather have a (comparably) safe "regular" website than open phatmass up to the kind of garbage that everyone has been experiencing with tinychat.

Marie-Therese

OK guys, I created a tinychat room which requires a password to enter and also requires a password to broadcast on mic or cam.

For anyone who is interested, PM me and I will provide the links and passwords. However, since the room is listed under my information, I will provide links and passwords at my discretion. Just so ya know. LOL

Hope this helps!

NO ONE post anything having to do with this chat in the statues. Don't give information to newbies. Be secure. :)

sure, it would be nice to have a chatroom as part of phatmass... but I don't think you realize the cost of so much bandwidth. That would be very expensive, and I don't want to pressure dust to add that. Especially because... what, 20 (at most) phatmassers of probably 200 somewhat active PM users actually use it?

Most have not even tried tinychat, although I'm sure they know about it... so I don't think its an issue of them trying it and not liking tinychat... I think most are just not interested period in a chatroom.

I never have known the "secure" link to get into the chat currently in use.

it's not letting me in! :sadwalk:

It may be that a password protected chat room requires registration with tinychat, but I don't know for sure.

yeah but with the options you can prevent peeps from using the webcam unless you let them. which just brings us back to possible swearing and insults, which thankfully i have a pretty tough skin about.
