Anti-Catholics are a strange bunch, I knew one who was so incredibly anti-abortion it just wasn't funny. (He hated the term pro-life) and while he hated the Church and tried to convert me or just insult my faith at every opportunity, he at least acknowledged that the Catholic Church did more for the unborn then any other Christian denom. He was a Baptist of some description. Anyway, some of the most devoute Christians/Catholics I've met are from the Phillipines. There's actually a Phillipino mass held weekly at my church. Ash Wednesday
The vast majority of the Filipinos or people of Filipino heritage I've known have been pretty committed Catholics.
KeenanParkerII
Dude, Filipino people are ten times more devout than most North Americans. No joke.. Even in secular shops and shopping malls they'll all stop at noon to pray the Angelus. You can hear it on radio stations, in the streets, everywhere. The Catholic clubs at our University were all started by Filipinos, and so far it's always been the case that if I'm talking to a Filipino, I'm talking to a Catholic.
That's it! He doesn't have the "Hail Mary" in his playbook! S.
I lol'd.
Nihil Obstat
I've heard rumours, although I'm not sure if they're true or not, that Catholicism in the Philippines has gone through some degree of syncretism with folk religions, similar to some parts of Africa and South America. KeenanParkerII
Ya it definitely has. Some of the types of penance the people commit are deeply frowned upon by the Church.. I'd rather be dealing with them then militant atheists though. Edited February 7, 2010 by KeenanParkerII

thessalonian
I've had some email diologue with Mr. Tetlow after hearing his propoganda on a local radio station. He is very anti-catholic. He has a video call "messages from heaven" that is a trashing of marian apparitions and some other propogand that he sent me (books). Another one of those former Catholics who "learned" the faith after they left the church. I like getting their propoganda because it costs them money to send it to me. I never pay for it. Seems like the Tebows are not exactly tolerant. The Tebows evangelical website is focused almost exclusively on the Philippines where his dad says "The Philippines, a country comprised of over 7,100 islands, has historically been an area of abuse and conquest. Of the 86 million Filipinos, we estimate that over 65 million have never once heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Currently, there are 41,949 barangays (villages), and 26,675 (64%) of them have no evangelical church of any kind.In recent years, there has been a tremendous movement of the Holy Spirit in the Philippines, resulting in an unusual spiritual responsiveness, and many Filipinos would believe in Jesus if they were just given the opportunity." It is of course a predominantly Catholic country as you may know. S.
Well even in a depressing story there is a silver lining: "Currently, there are 41,949 barangays (villages), and 26,675 (64%) of them have no evangelical church of any kind." The absence of Evangelical Churches in the Philippines is good news.
Veridicus
I worked with a Filipino medical technologist at a hospital during college and she was very devout. She intimated to me that some facets of the Church in the Filipines are somewhat corrupt because of their connections to state politics.

XIX
The Tebow ministry is located in Cotabato in Mindanao—the hotbed of the southern Muslim insurgency. So knowing that, it seems that they are more concerned with converting Muslims that converting Catholics. It still wouldn't shock me if the Tebows are anti-Catholic, but I'm definitely willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Especially Tim Tebow--it's very possible that, even if his father is anti-Catholic, that he himself isn't.

They do a lot travelling throughout the whole of the Philippines. I doubt seriously they have converted many Muslims; or that they even preach in Muslim areas. As noted in the first post it is their goal to establish evangelical churches in every barangay. S.
