Skinzo
This is a remarkable story though perhaps not unusual given the often passionate nature of church life in France. It concerns Bishop Nourrichard of the diocese of Evreux who decided to remove a popular pastor from his parish. Father Michel had been pastor there for 23 years at Thiberville and is apparently a traditionalist who was sometimes celebrating in the EF. The bishop decided on a new "pastoral team" and arrived at the parish (in rainbow vestments ) to make the announcement. The uproar that ensues as the parishioners yell and jeer is quite amazing. I think they could probably have found a better place to handle this, but perhaps the bishop is as much of an aggressive modernist as they seem to think. Interestingly, the bishop later backed down after a long meeting with the Nuntio and Father Michel has been restored to his parish. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has some info. on this. See: http://fratres.wordpress.com/2010/01/22/sheep-to-shepherd-pagan-thirberville-in-english-video/ S. laetitia crucis
That uproar is... I don't even know. Just watching the first two minutes horrifies me. I mean, even if the Bishop is a terrible Bishop as these people seem to believe, he's still an apostle of Christ and should be given the respect of that office. Praise God the matter was resolved, but wow.. I don't know why, but hearing the parishioners speak in such a way to a bishop brought tears to my eyes. No bishop, no matter how unworthy he is of that office, should ever be treated that way. (IMHO.) I'm sorry to say I don't know anything else about that incident, but I shall definitely be praying for Bishop Nourrichard and for his flock. Mary, Queen of Apostles -- pray for us!
Rainbow vestments were officially approved by the Vatican in 2009. I think the French bishops were the ones who petitioned for them. I don't think it was a wise decision but there it is. I haven't found an official source for it but it's being discussed at a lot of places around the web like here: http://www.catholiccitizens.org/news/contentview.asp?c=51650 Some of the bishops who concelebrated with JPII at World Youth Day in 1997 wore them. Unless the rainbow is a homosexual symbol exclusively in North America, I suppose...

But nowadays, it symbolizes something else and many people are bothered by it as a liturgical vestment. S. Veridicus
"Laity Laity Laity Laity Laity" As much as I empathize with people who's religious sentiments seem horribly out of touch with the liberal bent of their bishop, I am reminded of a scene in "Padre Pio: Miracle Man" where Pio's friend complains about the bishop disrespectfully for persecuting Pio...and Pio slaps his friend across the face for insulting the honor of the Bishop. We don't have to like the bishop, in fact we can outright loathe his aesthetic opinions, but at the end of the day our criticisms must be restrained by the honor always due to the episcopacy. I really do feel sorry for these traditional priests...they've been so horribly isolated in the last few decades. Just a little longer...the younger priests are great...just need to let nature run its course.
