What Music Did You Play At Your Wedding?

Well?

I've finished picking out the various options of the mass parts for our nuptial mass but now I need to decide on music. I should add: I'm very glad I'm well versed in Theology as some of those options for the mass are horrible  . I wouldn't want the average lay member to have to sift through the garbage.

This is the music I want at my wedding, if I get married, and if the bride does not object:

Ordinary: Mass for Five Voices by William Byrd or, if it's during Christmastide, Missa O Magnum Mysterium by Victoria.
Proper: Gregorian
Offertory motet: Ave Maria for Four Voices by Victoria
Communion hymn: Adoro Te Devote (Gregorian chant)

I know what you mean about the Nuptial Mass planning. It took my wife and I a while to get ours all together last year. Have you read Fulton Sheen's "Three to Get Married"? We actually used the traditional Nuptial Blessing he cites in that book rather than the stock one listed as an option in the marriage prep book.

Schubert Ave Maria was sung in Latin prior to the processional.

We processed in in the traditional 'Roman' style with the priest entering last; as much as I would have liked more Latin...my wife really liked "Lord of All Hopefulness" for the Entrance Hymn.

Our Kyrie was Chant "Holy God, Holy & Mighty, Holy Immortal One. Kyrie Eleison. Kyrie Elison. Holy God, Holy & Mighty, Holy Prince of Piece. Christe Eleison...."

I wish we would have done the Chant Gloria in retrospect.

We did Genesis 2:18-24, Ephesians 5:21-33, & John 17:16-26 for our readings.

For the Psalm my wife wanted 103:1-2,8 & 13,15-16,17-18.

We used the Alleluia my diocese always uses for their ordination Masses...I forget which Allelulia it is called officially but its pretty awesome. Our Alleluia Antiphon was Rev 19:7b,9a

We had the Litany of Saints chanted a Capella by one of the priests after the signing of the marriage license...it was a long Litany.

Eucharistic Prayer I

Chant Agnus Dei

Panis Angelicus was A Capella as one of our Communion Hymns

The Salve Regina was sung in latin at the conclusion of communion while we took a pair of roses over to the Marian altar.

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee was our Recessional Hymn

I have not had the joy of experiencing a wedding, but if I was blessed with a lovely bride and a beautiful wedding ceremony I would have Darth Vader's theme (a.k.a., the Imperial March) played:

We didn't have any music at ours. We were trying to get it finished as quickly as possible on an early Sunday morning in case my mother in law showed up with an axe to disrupt the wedding. The priest sounded like an auctioneer he was speaking so fast. He had all the doors locked so she couldn't get in, and a couple of my friends who showed up late knocked on the door to be let in, and the priest didn't stop. He just started talking even faster in fear.

Thy Geekdom Come

Let's see...Sleeper's Awake, Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, Adoramus Te Christe, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring.

jiyoung was our cantor. Since she's done a solo in St. Peter's, I thought that was pretty good.

I just had an idea. You could have Archbishop George Lucas perform the ceremony. :lol_roll:

True Story: my step sister and brother-in-law DID have the imperial march played when he walked into church. I wasn't at the wedding. It was at some methodist church somewheres.

Ash Wednesday

I believe we had Canon in D; Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring; Sheep May Safely Graze, and Henri Mulet's Carillon Sortie as a recessional. You can never go wrong with Bach. We were also fortunate to have a world class organist out of Oxford.

Oh and one of my friends had some Star Wars music at the recessional of their wedding, too.

I thought my parents were too. I was about 13 at the time and completely a star wars junkie. But even in my star wars fervor I found this usage at a wedding a bit odd. Apparently my brother-in-law was a giant star wars fan. This was at a methodist church...did I mention that? I figured you might appreciate both of those facts Apo.

Mark of the Cross

Didn't have any, it was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when I was much younger and slightly foolisher. In retrospect it probably should have been 'Oh what a fool I've been' or maybe 'The fool on the hill'. (Just kidding)
