Despite the fact that the first Christians and Apostles were more or less charismatic?

Just a question, but then again its whatever your spirituality is.

The earliest records of the Mass, aside from scripture itself, are from writings like the Didache, the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, Justin Martyr, etc. And neither they, nor scripture describe what has commonly come to be known as "charismatic."

The Charismatic movement dates from the early 20th century, and so there is nothing apostolic about it; and as far as the "Catholic Charismatic" movement is concerned it only arose during the 1960s under the influence of Protestant Pentecostal theology.

Yet, the Apostles reflect some of the same attributes of the Charismatic movement. By meaning this I refer to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and how the Apostles worked while the Holy Spirit was within them, much like how the modern Charismatic movement has the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. (see paragraph 1831 of the Catechism)

An example of Protestant Pentecostal influence in the "Catholic Charismatic" movement is the idea that there is a thing called "baptism of the Spirit" which is distinct from the sacrament of baptism. This idea is contrary to Catholic doctrine, which - as a matter of dogma - holds that baptism in the Spirit is given and received through the holy mystery of baptism. Sadly, the anti-sacramentalism of the Protestant Pentecostals has influenced the socalled "Catholic Charismatic" movement within the Western Catholic Church.

I guess you could definitely call me charismatic in a sense...though God does all things decently and in order. I've seen good and true and bad and false in different places I have been.

I LOVE Mass. I have to say many times I want to just raise my hands to heaven for what is happening there! I want to take the ciborium and cover Him with kisses. Of course I don't actually do that...but I want to. He is so beautiful, wonderful, amazing....

In my part of the country, there are many Catholics who are cultural Catholics only. They don't know Him. Sometimes they discard the Host after receiving the Eucharist, actually spit it out.

They need some pentecost, for sure.:sadder:

Have you guys ever heard Matt Maher's song Walls of Jericho? Now THAT's a worship song!

You are beautiful, glorious
Wonderful Lord Jesus
Forever will I worship You,
at the sound of Your Name.....

There is no proof to support this contention, although the Protestant Pentecostal heretics make this claim all the time.

The Methodist Church of my upbringing was influenced by the "holiness" movement, which gave rise to Pentecostalism, and I will never forget my dad telling me to avoid the Pentecostals, because their odd doctrines lead to confusion and often times a denial of fundamental revealed truths (e.g., the doctrine of the Trinity).

On a more positive note, I had some really great professors at FUS, and once I found the Byzantine parish in Weirton my liturgical life improved greatly.

I am not charasmatic however, I saw nothing heretical in the video.

I agree, the video just depicts the ongoing disintegration of the Roman Rite's liturgy. My other comments were not directed at the video per se, but at the theology / ideology that forms the foundation of the Charismatic movement. That is why I apologized to Zunshynn for hijacking her thread.
