Incense!

Does anyone have some recommendations on good places to get incense? I have one supplier that produces stick incense, but I am looking for a place where I have a little more selection in terms of scents, and most liturgical incense purveyors I have run across (most notably Prinknash) have no description regarding the scent. I also have no need of a pound of incense. I mean, what does Basilica smell like? And how does that differ from Cathedral?

That Russian Gardenia sounds exquisite. The stick that I use is frankincense and myrrh.

I usually order incense from Monastery Icons. I understand that the New Age cult that owned that company no longer owns it. Another source of excellent, but expensive, incense is Orthodox Incense. I prefer eastern-rite incense because it is pure resins and gums and does not contain the wood chips that are a prime source for many allergies.

While in the convent we used incense at least once week -- normally for Chapter Masses and for Benediction (after Adoration when a priest was present.)

In my home parish we use incense for all solemnities, and some special feast days. Ah, and also for Benediction after Adoration on Tuesdays.

I'm not sure what kind it is... but I love how it smells.

In my first parish we used incense also for solemnities and sometimes for Benediction. We had two types during my time there. The first type was SUPER smokey and I think it must have contained a lot of cedar. I'm rather allergic to cedar (even though I [i]love [/i]the smell) and have a difficult time breathing when I'm around too much of it. I basically feel like I'm suffocating.

I suppose a good number of parishioners at that parish had similar problems with that incense... the second type of incense was supposedly hypo-allegenic. It didn't smoke so well.

However, one of my very good friends is an Master of Ceremonies for that diocese and he goes to that parish. He is quite awesome with the thuribular acrobatics. We're talking 360s out the wahzoo.

One thing we do that helps is to grind the incense crystals to fine pieces in a coffee grinder before putting them in the boat. When the incense is powdered, it begins to smoke instantly when spooned over the coals and burns out with very little of that charred smell.

How long does the whole preparation take for incense?
