YOU HAVE AN AWESOME DAUGHTER! :D:

I have to say she is one of the most amazing girls I have ever met!

I finished my coworker year this summer. It was definitely one of the best experiences in my life. I have grown so much closer to Christ and now realize how much farther I have to go still!

I, personally have heard all the arguments against Regnum Christi, but I am also a big supporter desite all of that.

I think the problem lies, not with the RC group, but rather that SOME RC members are ultra-conservative (Mel Gibson for instance). And with the fact that some RC groups have taken it upon themselves to set up Church programs that don't work directly with their parishes- therefore giving the impression of setting up a "parallel" Church (I hope that makes sense). Obviously this isn't the intention, but it comes across to some as being exclusive.

I LOVE Regnum Christi. Pope John Paul II always talked about how great they are.

The reason why people don't like the Legionaires and Regnum Christi is because of the fact that people don't want the authenticity of the Catholic Church. Pope Benedict XVI himself gave the Legionaires and Regnum Christi a special mission since his election, to help spread orthodoxy.

JP2 said that they would help to set the world a blaze.

The people who don't like the LC's or RC's are the people who don't want to really learn about what the Catholic Church teaches. They would rather read the heresay that Fr. Richard McBrien teaches, or listen to a priest that would say a mortal sin is just fine and that you CAN go to communion.

It's hard to face reality. Keep on a trucking though. I"m joinging the movement in November as a youth member, as I will be entering the Legion whenever God wants me too.

Ash Wednesday

Obviously if John Paul II had great things to say about them, they can't be all that wacky. Have your family view their website itself and give them material to read. I see they also have a site called legionaryfacts.org too, that answers such concerns.

I think by having patience and assuring your family that it's not something off the deep end and definitely not schismatic, they'll eventually come around, or at the very least have more understanding of your experience. It's easy for us to become suspicious of things we have limited knowledge of. Perhaps in your relationship with your uncle over the long term he will see that it's not all spooky knuckle-wacking traditionalism. Maybe like many other Catholics -- from his seminary training or upbringing he's been "groomed" to be suspicious of some things (and probably cares about his nephew and wants to look out for him too.) :) Whatever doubts or questions he has, in answering with humility and love, and inspiring him to keep an open mind -- I don't think you would be at all disrespectful.

*Just to clarify*

I started this post about a year and a half ago. :) I have since been a coworker and have come back home, and it was a wonderful experience!! My immediate family has been very accepting, and my uncle has conceded that they're not ALL bad. :P:

Oh, btw....his niece, not his nephew!! :D:

I'm glad it all worked out. Since I was in seminary, I knew immediately that the word "Pre-Vatican II" meant "orthodox". The theological error is that the Catholic Church before Vatican II is the same as the one after. It is a heresy to say that there are two Churches, one good and one bad (that goes both ways). Would you say about the bible or Jesus "Well, that's pre-Vatican II"? Of course not. It is silly to say the same about Regnum Christi.
Also, a red flag went up when I saw that your uncle's seminarians were all trained by Maryknoll. In my discernement for ordination, I first looked at the missionary orders, most of all Maryknoll. Sadly, they have mostly given up their original, evangelical mission to become just another charity organization. Charity organizations are great and do much good, but that is not the primary purpose of a missionary organization.
Again, congrats about your year of service. Thank you.
