HisChildForever
I was thinking about this the other day. Why do we call Michael the Archangel "St." Michael? The same applies to Raphael and Gabriel. Is it just a title used to convey respect? Or is there another reason behind it?

HisChildForever
Ohhhh, thank you both. As an aside, does anyone know of a good St. Michael desktop wallpaper, in particular the scene where he has Satan underfoot?

Satan appears a little more distressed than his usual appearance of "oh, well, you got me." And St. Michael appears to be making sure he's getting that spear in exactly the right spot. The pursed lips of concentration and anger are an accurate human touch. Kudos to the artist. ~Sternhauser Edited June 6, 2010 by Sternhauser

let_go_let_God
I find it sweetly ironic that St. Michael is piercing his side where Christ's side would be pierced, as a forshadow of "This is what Christ will do, this is how you are eternally defeated." jeffpugh
Great pic! On the topic, my old 61 missal has the beginning of the St. Michael prayer (for the prayer after Low mass) as "Holy Michael the Archangel..." I made me think that it was interchangeable? MithLuin
Saints are in heaven with God, right? They've fought the good fight, made it through this life, and now.... Angels also had their opportunity to choose God or to fall, so the faithful angels can be called 'saints' too - they're not human, but they are in heaven and they are holy (their wills are aligned with God's). MIKolbe
perhaps obvious and possibly stupid question, but they were not cannonized, correct? We simply refer to them as St. out of respect? yes?
Skinzo
I think this Youtube video has just about every prominent piece of art ever done on St. Michael. Great music and the text is from Pope Leo XIII's longer prayer to St. Michael. Outstanding! in my IMHO. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLg2YauMuiY S.
