Sojourner
Frankly, I don't know why this wasn't closed 6 pages ago. Or really, why we needed to have any discussion at all about whether we should be charitable. We're all called to be charitable. End of story. No pledge is going to change that. We're commanded, as Christians, to love God, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. What more is there to say about that? As Icey noted in her opening post, perhaps it's best for each of us to start by looking in the mirror and do honest examination of conscience about our own charitableness. If we each worry more about our own level of charity, and less about everyone else's, I think we'd all be better off.

There are more than a few phatmassers who have left because they have not enjoyed the tone around here. They don't enjoy the swarm mentality or as dominicansoul description of a bunch of folks ganging up. So I think it is a needed discussion around here. I think ignoring the uncharitable behavior that is driving folks away (some who have been here for years) also goes to how visitors perceive us. I think its a mandatory discussion around here. [/quote] Earlier Iggy noted that she is putting her conversion process on hold right now, partially because of that. If we're driving away not only phamily but converts, too, because we're so rude we're doing something terribly wrong. I don't think we need to be all fru-fru and rainbows and butterflies, but we could all work on acting in Christian charity. I don't know about mandatory, but I don't think reminders and encouragement to try harder is too far fetched.
