tnavarro61
For those who are considering monastic life, this might be for you. http://www.brigittine.org/
Our style of life is monastic, according to the Rule of St. Augustine, and given to prayer and contemplation. This is an ancient style of life in its concept of withdrawal from the main stream of the activities of society. However, we seek to place its ancient traditions into this era, conveying its attraction and needfulness to the culture of our times. The Brigittine monastic habit, dark grey in color, is worn. Following the original pattern of monasticism, the monks do not ordinarily receive Holy Orders.
(From the "About Me") and their Prior is a Filipino! http://www.brigittine.org/monks/ezn/vol_6/ez1061_1.html (the newsletter is almost 2 years old )
LOL! I am posting it here for you! And I just looked at the map of USA and boom! Oregon and Georgia are on the opposite sides of USA. Well, Vermont is nearer I suppose. Alabama got Knights of the Holy Eucharist. I'm going off topic. Edited May 5, 2011 by tnavarro61
krissylou
I think the "cages" over the Brigittine nuns' veils seem quite odd. I'm sure it would seem less odd if I were Swedish, in whatever century Bridget was from. But to my eye they seem odd. The monks don't have that issue.
They are a bit odd, but also striking in their symbolism. It really sets them apart from all the other nuns in the world. I'm sure it is a bit of mortification for them knowing how odd it looks to the rest of the world. Still, they are a beautiful order. But, the lives of these monks looks amazing. May God bless them and prosper them!
MargaretTeresa
The "cages" kind of remind me of a weird Nordic crown...
