[/quote] Maybe it's the sculptor's initials? Or the place it was done? And the date it was sculpted? Unless it's referring to C.S. Lewis, who died in 1963 . . . but probably not. Aloysius Posted April 21, 2009 Author Share Posted April 21, 2009 It was St. John Neumann!!! or, at least, that's the best and most likely answer... statues and pics of him look similar enough, and it seems as though the brown on him was actually faded from red! so that's what fooled me. [img]http://www.cssr.com/english/saintsblessed/images/04%20-%20San%20John%20Neumann.jpg[/img] but the face is a little off, though this statue of St. John Neumann convinced me: [img]http://www.stjudeshop.com/resources/StJudeShop/images/products/processed/40602.zoom.a.jpg[/img] but even that's not that similar, but the face is rounder and it seems to fit except that he has lace overtop his cassok in my statue... and I still have never gotten around to taking a pic myself of it. he was beatified in 1963, same year this statue was made. seems like a perfect fit. canonized in 1977. anyway, I just had it blessed and everything, and I'm looking into St. John Neumann for anything that would make me say "aha! so it's providence that I ended up with a statue of him!"... so far I've thought "hey, wasn't Pittsburgh part of Philadelphia at that time?", but then realized he was pretty much the first bishop of Philadelphia to have not included Pittsburgh lol. but then I found a little tidbit which says he learned enough Irish (Gaeilge) to hear confessions in Irish for the sake of the Irish immigrants who had no English... and that's perfect! also, he is foundational to the Catholic education system, and I am a great hater of the public school system myself... and is it him that the Neumann societies on college campuses are named after? cause I've had the statue through my whole college career so far Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
