I have no news to post at just this moment, but we are heading into ordination season, so... let the good news begin!

On April 12, Franciscan Mike posted in last year's thread: "Archdiocese of Detroit ordained 4 to the Transitional Diaconate today!!!!  I belie Arlington will have a big ordination class this year.. Anybody else have any information????" I include it here so no one has to look in two places.

From the FB page of the Handmaids of the Precious Blood: "one of our Formation Sisters begins her private retreat before her First Vows. Please keep Sister Francis Clare of the Eternal High Priest in your prayers. She will make her vows on Saturday May 17th, 2025." 

They have three or four other sisters in formation at the moment, too.

At Sunday Vespers, Br. Bruno made a public Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity, professing to believe the entire Catholic faith and swearing to preserve communion with the Church in his life, teachings, and actions.

Both of these public declarations are necessary prerequisites for ordination to the diaconate, a sacrament that Br. Bruno will receive later this week!

Please pray for our brother as he prepares to receive this sacrament and ministry of service in the Church!"

This past weekend, four of our brothers professed their solemn vows in the Order of Preachers until death:

From the Trappist monastery of Gethsemani in Kentucky - these are from back in February, but this thread hadn't been posted then, so it still counts as news, right? 


February 1, 2025 - We Welcome David Hynds to our Community

So that's a new postulant. Then about a week later, a new novice...

February 9, 2025 - Keith Connelly has completed his year of postulancy here at Gethsemani and has been welcomed into the novitiate. When a member of the community enters the novitiate, he receives the habit and officially becomes a brother, with an official name.

Postulant Keith chose the name Br. Gerard after the Redemptorist saint, Gerard Majella. His feast day will be Oct 16.

During the ceremony for the reception of a novice, which took place during our regular Sunday chapter meeting, Abbot Elias gave a talk to the new novice and to the community about the meaning of the novitiate and monastic life in general.

The novitiate lasts for two years, during which time Br. Gerard will learn more about the history of monasticism, the history of our Order, Gethsemani’s place in that history, and monasticism’s relevance in the world today.

Father Joe Laramie SJ professed final vows in the Society of Jesus on May 3, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier College Church in St. Louis. Father Provincial Thomas P. Greene, SJ, received his vows on behalf of the Society.

Thanks be to God for Fr. Laramie's Jesuit vocation, and for all who have accompanied him throughout his formation!

Fr. Bao Q. Nguyen, SJ, professed final vows April 27, 2025, at St Ignatius Church in Baltimore. Joseph M. O’Keefe, SJ, provincial of the Jesuits USA East Province, received his vows on behalf of the Society.

Please join us in giving thanks to God for Fr. Nguyen's vocation and for all who have accompanied him during his ministry.

Priestly ordinations for 2025 taken from the website of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Cardinal Glennon Seminary prepares priests from many different dioceses, but it's possible that not ALL seminarians from one diocese attend Cardinal Glennon, so any diocese may have more ordinands that those listed here. Eleven Cardinal Glennon graduates will be ordained priests this year. Eight men will be ordained transitional deacons, but I don't list them here - that's for next year's thread. 

Belleville, IL - Levi James will be ordained June 7.

Kansas City, KS - Will Carey, Cesar Gomez, and Daniel Mauro will be ordained May 24. 

Kansas City-St. Joseph, MO - Ethan Osborn will be ordained May 24. 

Omaha, NE - Logan Hepp, Brian Hula, and Will Targy will be ordained June 7. 

Sioux City, IA - Jacob Rosenmeyer will be ordained June 7. 

Springfield, IL - Ryan Kehoe will be ordained May 24. 

Wichita, KS - Nicholas Samsel will be ordained May 24.

"During the rehearsal last night for the Ordination Mass, these men remembered the way in which Jesus asked Peter to feed his flock.

This morning, the Mass of Ordination to the Priesthood will be celebrated, during which Dcn. Ben Schoonmaker, Dcn. Francis Strong, and Dcn. Jack Watt will be ordained priests for the Diocese of Peoria!"

from the Diocese of Wichita, KS. One of these ordinands was mentioned in the previous post about graduates of Cardinal Glennon Seminary, but the other two didn't attend Glennon. Wichita ordained three priests today.

Br. Joachim Conti professed solemn vows as a Benedictine monk at Conception Abbey in northwest Missouri on May 16th. They have another two or three monks in minor vows, and six novices.

Today, Most Rev. Robert J. Lombardo CFR, auxiliary bishop of Chicago, presided over the ordination of Father Betenora Bako Liba SVD, Father Christian Castro SVD, Father Cruz Enrique Colunga SVD, Father John Hyun Cho SVD, Father Martin Herrera SVD and Father Tin Trung Vu SVD.

Please join us in congratulating them and giving praise and honor to God!"

I don't know if these men are American citizens, or if they're missionaries to the United States, but they are apparently members of the Chicago province.

Following are the ordinations for the six dioceses of Illinois: 

Chicago: 2 - 1 archdiocesan, the other for the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius, an order that works only in Chicago. 

Rockford: 1, on June 7th

Joliet: 2 (as far as I can tell), with 27 other men in the seminary!

Peoria: 3, on May 24th 

Springfield: 2

Belleville: 1

Lincoln, NE - It looks like only one presbyteral ordination this year. I found that information in this article - Lincoln has SIX sets of brothers who are priests (mostly pairs, but one trio). https://www.lincolndiocese.org/news/diocesan-news/18849-diocese-celebrates-sixth-set-of-brothers-who-are-priests

Grand Island, NE - I don't find any information about ordinations, other than nine permanent deacons. 

Omaha, NE - Three men will be ordained priests on June 7. 

"Deacons Logan Hepp, Brian Hula and Will Targy are ordained the newest priests of the Archdiocese of Omaha.
