Jesuslover
I am 31 years old and discerning consecrated virginity with my spiritual director. He has been my director for the past 3 years, so he knows me very well. He said I should take the next two years before he could recommend me to the Bishop. My director said he would need to see mental stability, self-discipline and chastity. It’s kind of like a period to test my resolve over time. I have OCD and anxiety and I fear that the Bishop will see it as a hindrance to being consecrated. He knows about my disability. I take medicine. I am already living the life of a consecrated virgin. I like to do things more behind the scenes than at the forefront. I love knowing the homeless have a warm blanket, food and a prayer. I love March for Life and 40 days for life, Eucharistic processions, praying the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. I have a heart of compassion for the elderly and love going out to dinner with them or knowing they have a nice Christmas meal. I love Legion of Mary and visiting the elderly. I am afraid the Bishop will expect more, and with my disability, I can only handle so much without being overwhelmed. How can I prepare in the next two years of discerning? Do you think my disability is a hindrance? I would love to hear from Sponsa Christi.
GraceUk
I think you shoukd continue as you are doing. You seem to be living a life compatible with your aims of consecrated virginity and also doing good works. If you continue in this way and remain faithful I am sure things will turn out well. Lou
Grace is right. You are faithful and living already a somewhat consecrated life. I believe it is normal for those considering consecrated virginity to discern it and live the lifestyle more closely for over a year before committing fully to it. Often they have the support of more than one person, sometimes 2 or 3 who support, observe, counsel them. There are some things you could look at in trying to see about this - there's a relatively recent podcast 'Wildflower Reunion' by 4 Consecrated Virgins discussing the life - there's a book by a woman who journeyed towards, and made, consecration. This is how I know she had a "committee" to help her along. A friend, a nun, a spiritual director I think. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crystal-Fountain-Story-Inner-Journey/dp/1856075672
