I know I'm late to this topic, but what do you all think of all the people who are supporting Lindsay Clancy?

Don't know enough to give a firm opinion.  To my understanding her case falls short of the legal definition of insanity, however the prosecutors admit that her motive was based on her mental illness... on the basis of that motive, I understand that had she not been sick, she would not have done what she done...and yet, her case falls short of legal insanity because <she sent her husband out> before committing the acts, which shows knowledge that it was wrong, and planning towards the deeds....

It is a mournful event on all sides, including Lindsay... I am actually simply glad not to be a pat of decision process because I am not certain where I would go with it.

I have a friend who was an assistant DA in New York City.  I recently read closing arguments and discussed a case with him for a guy who killed people and used an insanity defense. 
 

There is a high legal standard for insanity.   I’m very doubtful her defense met that standard from what I hear in media snippets.  If her defense did meet the standards, it’s not what is being discussed in media and online.  Being mentally ill is not necessarily insanity, no matter how sympathetic we may want to be.  Mental illness is not an excuse for extreme behaviors, else you legalize rage killings by anyone under a therapist’s care.
